It was a moving moment at the National Zoo in Washington. Thousands    1     people came to say goodbye to the zoo’s most popular star,     2    is actually a panda. Bao Bao, the panda’s name, left for her new home back in Chengdu, China on Feb. 22, 2017. She’s the first female panda born in the US and     3    (win) the hearts of many Americans since her birth three and a half years ago. Bao Bao must be sent back to her     4     (origin) hometown due to an agreement between China and the US that demands every baby panda should return to China by the age of four. Researchers and wetland protectors in Wuhan, Hubei Province, are stepping up efforts to allow more wildlife to survive in their natural habitat.     1     treasured species of ducks is one of the animals benefiting from the growing focus     2     the environment.

In 2012, Baer’s pochard, the blue-headed duck,     3     (list) as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature after its numbers declined due to a bad habitat. The ducks were rarely seen in Wuhan until bird-watchers observed     4     (they) living in the city in 2014. Despite that, no proof showed that, so far, the ducks     5     (turn) from migratory birds to resident birds in the city because researchers would not attach tracers to the animals     6     (prevent) humans disturbing them.

In 2019, the Wuhan Bird Watching Society started researching and rescuing the habitats of the duck. They found that the ducks feed on     7     (plant), shrimp and snails. When I was in college, a white cat often showed up on our campus. It was clear that he was a stray (流浪的) cat    1     he looked thin and weak. He took the cat to an animal clinic    8    the cat was given a health check. He then bought food for the cat, as well as a small bed for him to sleep in. He made sure the cat was healthy and    9    (comfort).It might seem like a small effort to some people. But this man risked    10    (he) job - the only source of income - just to feed a tiny cat   no one else cared for. It was a very heartwarming thing to see.
