Often when people make plans to visit Britain as a(n)     1     (tour), the only city they consider is London. Although, as the capital city of England, it is a lively and interesting place with many historical and cultural     2     (attraction), people often forget the rest of the United Kingdom and all the     3    (excite) things it offers. So here     4     (be) some of my favourite cities of the United Kingdom that you may not have heard much about.

Glasgow

Glasgow, one of Scotland’s biggest cities,     5     (sad) has a reputation (名声) for being ugly and dirty. The first time I visited it, I realised     6     wrong it was! The city has many universities, so it is full of young people, and it is also home to many museums and art galleries. There are also beautiful historical sites.

Bristol

As it is in the south of England, Bristol is very easy to travel to from London. It is a very beautiful city     7     has a great cathedral and scenic streets. The River Avon runs through the city, and the suspension bridge allows you     8     (walk) high over the water and watch it stretch ahead for miles.

Newcastle

Newcastle is famous     9     its shopping and busy nightlife, but it also boasts (拥有) a beautiful river, art galleries, theatres and restaurants.

So if you ever find yourself in the UK, consider     10     (try) something different than London!

My decision to travel around China was merely due to my being     1     (curiosity)about the country. Before I paid a visit to China, I took many aspects     2     account.

After travelling from Beijing up to Xi’an, I wanted to challenge myself by choosing a smaller town—Xiahe in Gansu Province. I arrived in Lanzhou at around 5 am, but only     3     (tell) that there were no buses to Xiahe. I managed to see a policeman and attempted to explain to him the destination     4     I planned to go in simple English, praying that he would understand. I wasn’t sure that he did but I just followed him anyway as I had no choice. He took me on a bus but not     5     (know)where I was going, I was quite anxious. Fortunately, I met a student who told me in English that the policeman was taking me to another bus station where I could take a bus to Xiahe. During this conversation a third man said he was also a policeman and would help me buy a ticket. But as he was not in uniform, I was afraid that he     6     not be a policeman. I was a little doubtful about his real identity. The uniformed policeman’s immediate     7     (recommend) was that I should go with the third man. Having got off the bus, I followed the so-called policeman. But at this point, he disappeared and I was left in the middle of nowhere. I stood there, feeling a little scared. Around one minute later a police car came and stopped right by me. It was the policeman who didn’t wear uniform.    8     (incredible) he told me to get into the car and he dropped me directly at the bus station, and helped me buy a ticket.

This is one of many things that I     9     (go) through in China so far. Regardless of different cultures, there was one thing that would always stand out—kindness. The people I met showed their kindness and friendliness. I also saw them so     10     (devote)to their work.

The Chinatown in San Francisco is a popular     1    (tour) attraction. The climate is mild all year round,     2    (mean) that it is always a good time to visit.

In history, immigrants from China settled down where the railroad     3    (construct) in the period of gold rush. The Chinatown used to be what started as a     4    (resident) area for Chinese immigrants. The majority of residents there are still those from China, most of     5     do not speak English well.

An earthquake occurred in 1906, leaving most of Chinatown     6    (destroy) . When it was rebuilt, lots of Chinese architecture was included. Today, you can still see the legendary Dragon Gate, the Tin How Temple and Bank of Canton. Visitors can wander about,     7    (explore) the interesting sights, smells, and sounds of China. Portsmouth Square is a key site     8     a long and famous history, and also a great place to see     9    (tradition) Chinese culture. But     10     many tourists treasure most is its food, which suits everyone’s taste. No doubt the Chinatown plays an important role in the diverse culture of America.
