A: It's good that you want to succeed in your written work at college. Making use of available resources to help you succeed is a smart strategy (策略). But while you may believe that your instructors don't care as much about how you write as they do about your ideas, that' s not a fair assumption.(假设)
Certainly, your ideas are important. No matter how polished your writing is, it will not disguise a poorly expressed idea in a paper. But as a college student, being able to organize your thoughts clearly-whether you're speaking in class or writing a paper-is critical to show that you've mastered the material in each course. This does not mean you shouldn't ask others to review your written work before handing it in. That's OK.
You should not, however, allow a friend or anyone else to rewrite parts of your papers for you. Instead, ask them to simply let you know about any parts of the paper that are unclear and need work. Many colleges have writing centers where tutors will work with you on your writing-without doing the work for you.
Regardless of whether you consult(咨询) with a friend or a tutor, the right thing is for you to talk to your instructors to ask their advice and let them know you plan to seek assistance with your writing. If you ask them in advance for guidance on what's appropriate and what's not for the written work they assign, that will allow you to be as transparent as possible about how you completed your

Sunflowers are huge plants with bright yellow flowers. They have a long history in North America. There is evidence that they were used for food and medicine by Native Americans beginning around 1000 B. C.
How to Grow
If you start growing sunflowers from seeds, put them in room-temperature water for 2—8 hours before planting to start the growing process.
As the plants grow, they will develop long roots that work their way deep into the ground.
Mix a large amount of compost (堆肥) into the soil where the plant will grow. Compost provides important, lasting nutrients that will help the plants all seasons long.
How to Eat
To gather the seeds, wait until the plants die back and the flowers start to fall at the end of the season.
Sunflower seeds may be eaten cooked or uncooked. To roast the seeds, you need an oven. Set the temperature to 165 degrees Celsius. Once the oven is heated, cook the seeds until they are brown.
A.Water the plants when the soil dries. |
B.The seeds will start coming out of the head. |
C.The process takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. |
D.Get ready to provide about 2.5 centimeters of water a week. |
E.As a result, before planting, it is important to loosen the soil. |
F.Remove the seeds by rubbing flowers with your hands or a hard brush. |
G.Plant each seed into dirt 2.5 centimeters deep and 15 to 30 centimeters apart. |

Several months ago in his restaurant, Marvin was held at gunpoint by four armed robbers. They panicked and shot him. Luckily, Marvin was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local hospital. After 18 hours of the operation and weeks of medical care, Marvin recovered with pieces of the bullets(子弹)still in his body.
It is really a miracle(奇迹)for Marvin's surviving the robbery. When I met Marvin after the terrifying accident, I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. Marvin replied,“As I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices:I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I refused to choose to die. ”Marvin continued,“The nurses kept telling me that I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and from the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses,I read,‘He's a dead man. 'I knew I needed to take action. ”“What did you do?”I asked. “Well, there was a big nurse shouting questions at me ,”said Marvin. “She asked if I was allergic(过敏的)to anything. ‘Yes,’I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled,‘Bullets. ’Over their laughter I told them,‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead. ?’”
“Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining,I can choose to accept their complaining or to point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life,”Marvin concluded.

Though regarded in France as one of that country's greatest poets, he is better known abroad for such novels as NotreDame de Paris (1831) and Les Misrables (1862).
Victor was the third son of a general in Napoleon's army. His childhood was coloured by his father's constant traveling with the imperial (帝国) army. The fall of the empire gave him, from 1815 to 1818, a time of uninterrupted study, after which he graduated from a law college at Paris, where his studies seemed to have been purposeless and irregular. Memories of his life as a poor student later inspired the figure of Marius in his novel Les Misrables.
From 1816, at least, Hugo had set up ambitions other than the law. Encouraged by his mother, Hugo founded a review, the Conservateur Littraire (1819-1821), in which his own articles on the poets Alphonse de Lamartine and Andrde Chnier stood out. His mother died in 1821, and a year later Victor married a childhood friend, Adèle Foucher, with whom he had five children. In that same year he published his first book of poems, Odes et posies diverses. In 1823 he published his first novel, Han d'Islande, which in 1825 appeared in an English translation as Hans of Iceland. In 1824 he published a new poem collection, Nouvelles Odes, and followed it two years later with an exotic romance, BugJargal. In 1826 he also published Odes et ballades, an enlarged edition of his previously printed verse.
Hugo emerged (出现)as a true Romantic with the publication in 1827 of his poem drama Cromwell, in which the contradictions of human existence—good and evil, beauty and ugliness, tears and laughter—would be resolved by the inclusion of both tragic and comic elements in a single play.

Davis studied in a firefighting school for about three months and took part in classroom work, physical exercise, and hands-on training such as fighting live fires in buildings filled with straw.

He takes classes to keep up his skills and trains regularly by fighting practice fires. Sometimes this includes cutting holes in roofs, which helps allow smoke to pass out and improves visibility for firefighters inside the building.
Firefighting means plenty of risks. Besides,Davis says·"You have to be willing to help any person you come across.” If someone is trapped,Davis or another firefighter will put himself at risk to get the person out. Davis says he is not afraid when he’s fighting a fire. He does what’s needed.

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is asking the public to help it add new words. Editors want to find the regional differences in English around the world. They want to expand its record of the language.
Last year, the OED, BBC Radio and the Forward Arts Foundation teamed up to find local words in the United Kingdom. It resulted in more than 100 regional words and phrases being added to the dictionary. One was “cuddy wifter”, which means a left-handed person.
Now, the OED is widening its search to English speakers around the world. Eleanor Maier, an editor at OED, said the response has been great. Editors are listing a bunch of suggestions to include in the dictionary.
These include Hawaii’s “hammajang”, which means “in a disorderly state”. Another is the word for a swimming costume, “dookers” or “duckers”. It is used in Scotland.
The OED also might include the word “frog-drowner”, which Americans might use to describe a downpour of rain. Another possibility is “brick”. It means “very cold” to people in New Jersey and New York City.
The dictionary has already found that, depending on location, a picture hanging off center might be described as “agley”. It might also be called “catawampous” or “ahoo”.
“The OED aims to cover all types of English,” Maier said. That includes scientific words, slang and regional language. Maier also said that it can be difficult for the OED’s editors to identify regional words. The terms are more often spoken than written down.
The appeal is called Words Where You Are. It is looking for more suggestions. “We were surprised and pleased by the number of regional words we were able to include,” said Maier.
1. Which local word of the following most likely comes from one region of the United Kingdom?A.Hammajang. | B.Dookers. |

Living like this is possible if you really think about it. In order to exist in such a state of happiness, we must have sunshine radiating from within ourselves, shining from our hearts, minds and souls. Actually, that's your choice, and if you think that way then your own life will reflect that attitude of yours!
In order to make “sunshine” or rather “light” part of our being, it is so important that you watch your thoughts, your words and your actions so that you will accept what you really feel you'd like to create in your own life. Watch your thoughts and really become aware of how many negative thoughts pass through your mind about yourself and other people around you. Watch to see how often you gossip ( 说 闲 话 ) about other people, which is actually often attached with feelings of jealousy (妒忌) and insecurity(不安全感) about yourself.
You are also supposed to take a close look at your “intention”. How many of you do something for another person without expecting to receive something in return? It might not even have to be a material or physical thing you expect; expecting to be recognized for what you have done is enough to create conditions on your intention. Think about it!
Putting all of these together, it seems that most of us are creating monsters inside us just by simply talking, thinking and not putting our heart out with the right intention towards helping someone else. If you take all your negative attitudes in one hand and measure your need to feel “sunshine” in the other, you will see how both these elements really contradict each other.
Be brave and break your patterns and your habits this spring, and by doing so, you will allow the true sunshine to take place by radiating out from your heart and into your life and the lives of the people around you!
1. You can have sunshine shining from your inside .A.by watching what you think, say and do |
B.by helping someone else |
C.by measuring what you need |
D.by changing your intention |
A.expect to be recognized for what you've done |
B.take a close look at your intention |
C.gossip about other people |
D.become aware of your negative thoughts |
A.Breaking our patterns is the most important to get true sunshine. |
B.Expecting something in return for our help isn't the right intention. |
C.If we don't intend to help others, we create monsters inside us. |
D.Negative attitudes have little to do with happiness. |
A.stress the importance of the positive lifestyle |
B.analyze the intentions and thoughts in our mind |
