I think adults are affected by media, songs, and the Internet, and that is hard enough. After looking in all of the magazines and at models, my friends and I agree that our least favorite day of the year is when we wear swimsuits! It affects your whole mood and self-image for the day. Think about how hard it is for young girls if they believe “how hot you look” is how valuable you are.
Here are some ways parents can be proactive in encouraging a healthy self-image in their children.
First, teach what real value is. I think kids sometimes are confused about values. How valuable you are is not measured by how pretty you are on the outside and success is not measured by how famous you are. We were watching the Oscars and my 6-year-old son said “She is so pretty,” and then quickly looked at me and said “You are prettier, Mom.” And I said, “It’s okay. There are many people prettier than me on the outside. I know that’s not why you love me.” It is important to teach children this from an early age.
Second, tell your kids about “the grass is always greener syndrome.” It is very easy for all of us to see the glamour (魅力), whether it be in a famous singer or the most popular girl in the school. Do not dehumanize and judge famous people. Talk about what problems they might have that are different from the problems your child has and maybe some of the same struggles, like maybe wanting acceptance from peers (同龄人).
At last, use your mouth. Don’t be afraid to have conversations with your child about how they’re feeling about ads, songs, etc... Boys too! You are the parent! Kids of all ages want and need boundaries whether they admit it or not. Take a stand and have confidence enough not to be followers and not to purchase clothing, music, or magazines that you don’t believe sends the right message to your children!

Generally, journaling is to keep a diary or journal that explores thoughts and feelings about the events of your life. It allows people to gain valuable self-knowledge. It is also a good problem-solving tool. Oftentimes, one can find out a problem and come up with solutions more easily on paper. More importantly,as a stress management and self-exploration tool, journaling works best when you keep doing so,but even occasional journaling can be stress-relieving.
To reduce pressure effectively, journaling can take several forms, and here are multiple choices that can work for you.
Gratitude Journal:To keep a daily gratitude journal, you can list three or more aspects of each day for which you are grateful. It helps you to focus on what you have in your life already and create a more positive mood at that moment. An added benefit is that if you are feeling down in the future, you can cheer yourself up with a few pages of the things you have to appreciate in life.
Emotional Release(释放):You may also write about your emotional responses to events that have happened throughout the day as a way of dealing with the stress. This is a great way to enlarge the positive and manage the negative things that happen in your life, increasing your positivity ratio(比率).
Bullet Journal:You can simply keep bullet journals to record what you need to do each day, goals you have, memories you create, and other things you do not want to forget. It keeps your mind clear and helps you remember what is important to you.
The journaling method you choose can depend on your needs at the time and your personality-just do what feels right. If you already have a favorite journaling habit,by all means, keep it up!But if you are new to journaling, remember:any day is a good day to get into the habit.

But the key to making the most out of small talk, according to Harvard researchers, is, to simply ask the other person follow-up questions. In a series of experiments, researchers analyzed more than 300 online conversations and found that those who were asked more meaningful follow-up questions (a.k.a. questions that aren’t “how are you?” or “what do you do?”), found the other person much more likable.
So how do you move from tongue-tied to being an interesting person? It depends on questions you start with, and then you can focus on the stream of follow-up questions.
Open your eyes before you open your mouth. Find something to focus on in your surroundings, like the piece of art on the wall, a family picture on their desk, a race car helmet, scattered coins from various countries and so on. There’s bound to be something that will spark small talk and help lead the conversation into unique follow-up questions.
Share some news (that actually happened).
If you have “news”, share it: “I adopted a pet over the weekend” or “My 6-year-old rode a bike for the first time yesterday”. Believe it or not, most people actually do want to know more about others, especially if they both work at the same company.
If you’re new to a company and leading a team, for example, start your first meeting by going around the room and asking each person to say one interesting thing that recently happened in their lives.
It’s not just what you say.
No matter what or how much you say, your tone of voice, facial expression and eye contact will broadcast so much more. In person, look at the other person when you speak, not at the conference table or the wall.
A.Avoid any small talk in our daily life. |
B.Be in the moment and observe your surroundings. |
C.It will also contribute to your success in your work. |
D.On the phone, smile — it will make your voice sound warmer. |
E.What follows is a meaningless exchange with zero connection. |
F.Here are some strategies on having a meaningful conversation. |
G.Due to the momentary sharing, you’ve allowed everyone to feel more personally and genuinely connected with each other. |

First, if a country wants one of its places to be on the List of World Heritage Sites, it has to ask the UNESCO (联合国教科文组织). The place must be important and special. The UNESCO put the Great Wall on the list in 1987 because, it said, it was a great part of Chinese culture and beautifully made to go with the land. When a country asks, it must also make a plan for taking care of the place.
Second, the World Heritage Committee of the UNESCO talks about different places and decides whether to put them on the list. The committee meets every June. Many experts help the committee to decide.
Third, after a new place goes on the list, the UNESCO gives money to help keep it looking good. If a place is in serious danger, it may be put on the List of World Heritage in Danger. The UNESCO gives special care and help to those places.
Then, countries have to give the UNESCO regular reports about places on the list. If the UNESCO thinks a country isn’t taking good enough care of a place, the site will be taken off the list.

It is defined as the stage between cognitive decline that comes naturally with aging and the more serious decline in brain performance—dementia (痴呆), MCI affects many aspects of cognition, such as memory, language, judgment and thinking.
Modern treatment for MCI and dementia involve mostly medications that are yet to be proven effective. But there are natural ways for individuals with MCI to improve their condition. Cognitive training, for instance, can help them develop their remaining cognitive skills. Improving their cardiovascular fitness can also lower their risk of further brain damage caused by blockage of blood vessels.
But in recent study, researchers at RMIT University in Australia found yet another way to boost cognitive function without using modern medications. By evaluating clinical evidence presented by multiple studies, the researchers found that traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) can cause positive changes in the brains of adults with MCI. They reported their findings in an article published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is a sensitive measure used to evaluate changes in cognitive function. MoCA is often used to test the effects of TCM on people with MCI. The researchers selected a total of 19 studies, 16 of which contributed to data analyses. Three studies were placebo-controlled (安慰剂对照), while nine compared a TCM herb with conventional medication. Three studies combined a TCM with a modern drug, and one study combined a known TCM with cognitive training. In two of the placebo-controlled studies, which lasted for 24 weeks, TCM herbs produced favorable results at the end of treatment. Overall, results suggested that certain TCM formulations can improve MoCA scores by 1.76 to 2.34 points.
Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that TCM herbs, owing to their active components, can improve cognitive function in people with MCI.

Given how much time we spend on our devices, this sounds like a smart investment, right? After all, eye strain (疲劳) is a real issue and can lead to poor sleep and even eye diseases. The glasses can cost $15 all the way up to several hundred dollars. But do they work?
Elizabeth Esparaz, an ophthalmologist (眼科专家) based in Cleveland, Ohio, says the science that manufacturers share as they promote these glasses can be confusing. For starters, blue light is not just about tech devices, and it’s not always bad. “The sun emits a much higher intensity of blue light than human-made devices, which helps our mood, alertness and sleep-wake cycle,” says Dr. Esparaz.
The problem is blue light at night: It contains the release of melatonin. “Melatonin helps regulate our circadian rhythms (生理节奏) and makes us sleepy,” says Dr. Esparaz.
So, in theory, wearing blue-light-blocking glasses should help people who watch movies in bed or read from a tablet at night avoid sleeplessness. A review study from the University of Oklahoma that looked al 24 previous studies found that people affected by sleep disorders, jet lag and shift work fell asleep faster after using these glasses.
As for eye strain, a 2021 Australian study showed that those wearing the glasses did not experience less eye strain than those using clear glasses. And a 2018 review study, also by Australian researchers found insufficient evidence that they prevent certain eye diseases.
“These glasses aren’t going to be harmful,” says Dr. Esparaz, But, she adds, a lack of standardization in the industry means there’s no way to know if one pair is better than another. A more reliable solution: Turn on the blue-light-filtering function on your devices and limit screen time before bed. To help with eye strain, Dr. Esparaz suggests taking breaks and using lubricating eye drops.

It sounds like something out of a fairytale. But a viral “Aged” filter (滤镜) on TikTok is allowing users to look into the face of their future selves.
The new filter uses AI to estimate what your face will look like as you age, and dermatologists (皮肤学家) on TikTok are calling it “very accurate”. But the response, especially among young people using the filter, shows a deep fear within Gen Z of getting, and more importantly, looking old.
What does the filter do?
The filter, which has over 9 million videos on TikTok, provides a picture of users’ faces with realistic aging, including wrinkles, crow’s feet and often gray hair. The filter looks different for each person and uses AI to enhance existing facial features, like under-eye bags or wrinkles, to estimate how their face will age.
TikTok is not the first app to release an aging filter. Snapchat released a similar filter back in 2019, and users similarly used FaceApp to age themselves.
Even Kylie Jenner immediately joined in the trend saying simply “I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all.”
Others disagree about how much the filter ages them, comparing their aged face to other users. Some have used the filter on old photos of their parents or celebrities and compared the filter’s results to how they look today.
Others, however, have taken a more loving approach to their future selves. Many users express shock at how similar they look to relatives and others express excitement for the years ahead.

Lately, there is a rising trend in families choosing to homeschool their child than send their child to a traditional educational institution. Let’s look at some of the benefits of homeschooling.
1. Flexible Schedule
Homeschooling enables a flexible schedule.
2. Individual Attention
With homeschooling, your child gets all the individual attention. For example, if your child is weak in maths, you could devote more time and energy to teaching maths. Your child’s homeschooling schedule can be adjusted for that. For example, if your child is better at science than at maths, simply devote more homeschooling hours to maths and cut back on science. With homeschooling, the choice is yours.
3. Family Activity
The schooling of the child can become an extended family activity. Examples are field trips and experiments. Plus, the child also receives more quality time with his/her parents.
4.
With homeschooling, the child does not need to prove his/her abilities to other children. Parents are able to plan the learning program according to his strengths and weakness. Parents can also change the curriculum to suit the learning style of the child.
A.No peer pressure |
B.Religion Learning |
C.Traditional schools can’t do that. |
D.There is more time for family bonding. |
E.For example, the child needn’t wake up at 7 every morning. |
F.Plus, it is quite impossible to provide individual attention to all students. |
G.For example, some children learn better from reading while others need to write. |

While parents are focusing on this all year round, the holidays are a major built-in opportunity for parents to help children develop character and values. Receiving gifts has no long-term effect on a child’s development, but contributing to others and learning about giving and selflessness does.
Show historical significance
It’s important to help children understand the history of the holidays their own family celebrate. Read fiction or non-fiction books about the holidays and visit places where holidays are celebrated in different days.
Encourage thoughtful planning
When preparing for the holidays, involve your child in the act of cooking or buying gifts.
Get crafts with giving
Find ways for your child to give back to teach the true meaning of holiday giving. Suggest that each child get a toy by donating toys to those in need.
Set an example
A.Share and create traditions. |
B.They are giving and getting all at the same time. |
C.So it is time to teach children the true meaning of the holidays. |
D.Classics can inspire your child to think about the true meaning of the holidays. |
E.Ask your child to make a list of people who devote their lives to helping others. |
F.Help them make connections between the values of the holidays and their actions. |
G.Parents are the role models who can teach children the true meaning of the holidays. |

Unkind words, name-calling or even the so-called “silent treatment” can hurt children as much as being physically hit, sometimes even more so. A developing brain can be damaged by unkind words, a study shows. A recent study of middle school children showed that verbal abuse by other children can harm development in the brain. The study was a project of researchers at Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts.
Researcher Martin Teicher and his team studied young adults aged between 18 and 25. These young men and women had no experience with domestic (家庭的) violence, or physical abuse by their parents. The researchers asked the young people to rate their childhood exposure to verbal abuse from both parents and other children. Then the researchers performed imaging tests on the brains of the subjects.
The images showed that the individuals who reported suffering verbal abuse from their peers in middle school had underdeveloped connections between the left and right side of the brain. The two sides of the brain are connected by a large bundle of connecting fibers called the corpus callosum (胼胝体). This was the area that was underdeveloped.
The middle school years are a time when these brain connections are developing. So, unkind, hurtful comments from children or adults during this period have the greatest effect. The researchers tested the mental and emotional condition of all the young people in the study. The tests showed that this same group of individuals had higher levels of fear, depression, annoyance and drug abuse than others in the study.
The researchers published their findings online on the American Journal of Psychiatry’s website. We cannot control what other people say to our children. But we can prepare them. A website called CreativeWithKids. com suggests 64 things that all children need to hear. Here are our top 20.
