Life can bring us down from time to time. At some point, you may find yourself in what you will consider as your darkest hour. As you try to find your way out of that bad situation, you should try to remind yourself that there is always still a reason to be grateful.

If you look at your situation now and compare it with that of someone else who is in much deeper trouble than you,I am sure that you'll find something to be thankful for. We all have our share of problems. But complaining about them only makes us blind to the fact that there are miracles happening around us every day.

When all your needs are met, then you should be content and happy. If you have a roof over your head, some decent(像样的)clothes to wear, enough food on the table,a comfortable place to sleep in,clean water to drink and you are free to make your own choices, then you should be happy and grateful. Many people around the world, especially those who are at war or those in very poor countries would give anything to be in your shoes.

Even if you lose all your possessions and your heart is broken for some reason, as long as you are still alive and energetic, then every material thing you have lost can be regained. If you have a few good friends to support or help you, then be glad because true friends are hard to find. As long as you have someone to love and someone to love you back, then you are a very fortunate person. Remember to be patient and trust that things will get better.

A.Ignoring something good.
B.Creating a far worse situation.

D.Failing to share the pain with others.
3. What does the underlined part "in your shoes" in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.In your honor.B.On your behalf.
C.In your situation.D.In touch with you.
4. Which can be the best title for the text?

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了一棵冷杉树从小树到柴火的故事。

【推荐1】Out in the woods stood a nice little Fir Tree. It was the sun shining on him and the fresh air surrounding him that made him gorgeous. In summer, children often came and sat down near him and said, “What a nice little fir!” In winter, when the snow lay glittering on the ground, a hare hopped over the little tree. But he never felt any pleasure. What the little Fir wanted so much was to grow into a big tree as his neighbors.

“Oh! Were I but such a high tree as the others are,” thought he. “Then I should be able to spread out my branches, and with the tops to look into the wide world!”

When Christmas came, quite young trees with the finest looking were cut down. And so was the Fir Tree. He found himself, in the middle of the living-room, stuck upright in a bucket that was filled with sand and decorated with the most splendid things-apples, colorful lights and at the very top a large golden star, which made him incomparably beautiful.

“What a splendor!” thought the Fir Tree, believing he would take root here and forever stand covered with decorations!

However, the splendor never came back again. After the Christmas, the servant dragged him out of the room, and up the stairs into the loft in a dark corner, where no daylight could enter.

“If it only were not so dark here, and so terribly lonely. Not even a hare!” he sighed. “They surely stored me here for the next Christmas.”

One day, the tree was pulled out and a man drew him towards the stairs, where the daylight shone. Feeling the fresh air and the first sunbeam, now he was out in the courtyard. Seeing all the beauty of the flowers and the freshness in the garden, he firmly believed he would be replanted there.

文章大意:这是一篇夹叙夹议文。作者买的二手汽车在更换电池之后,表盘显示的时间回到了九年前,这让作者想起了过去的经历,并由此引发了他对生活的感想。

【推荐2】The second-hand car that I bought just three months ago wouldn’t start the other day. The factory battery that came along with it showed that it had worked long enough to “face death”. My kind-hearted neighbor gave it a try, but the battery wouldn’t hold the charge. After giving another try, I headed to the local car store to buy a new one. Fixing it was more difficult than we thought, so I took it to a local repairman who finally got the new battery in and the car started running once again.

Driving it this morning, though, I noticed that the time on the screen had suddenly gone back to nine years, resetting to the date of the first time when it was started. While my son smartly found out how to program it back to today, I thought about how I had wished I could turn back time and make up for some of the errors I had made and the missteps I had taken in my own life during my boyhood time.

How many of us wish that we could go back to a certain time and change things? Like most middle-aged fathers, I have ever wished that. Yet, when I look back on my life today, I think that I won’t change anything. Every choice I have made, every step I have taken, and every road I have taken has led me to where I am now. Many of my choices have brought me pain in the past, but they have also guided me in the present. I won’t want to change things as they will change me. All that I have learned comes from the roads I have taken.

When you look at your own life, you can remember your past sadness, bout don’t regret the roads you took. Instead, celebrate the path you are on. Keep your feet moving forward.

1. How did the author get the car to work?
A.by accepting his neighbor’s battery.
B.By asking a man to repair it at home.
C.By sending it to its production factory.
D.By changing is battery for a new one.
2. What did the wrong time on the car’s screen remind the author of?
A.His past mistakes.
B.His happy childhood days.
C.His difficulty in the car repair.
D.His experience of buying the car.
3. What does the author think of his pain in life now?
A.It is confusing.B.It is valuable.
C.It is uncommon.D.It is unimaginable.
4. What does the author want to tell us?
A.We shouldn’t remember the past.
B.No one can make up for mistakes.
C.No one wants to go back and live once again.
D.We shouldn’t regret the past but should move on.

3】My mum is about to have a spinal (脊柱的) operation. The operation is relatively minor, but does carry a risk of paralysis (瘫痪). Friends and family have reacted to this news by talking in such pessimistic terms that Mum has come to label this kind of talk as “psychological theft’’. It occurs when other people increase your anxiety rather than provide comfort.

Last week Mum went to the post office and ran into Geoff who works for the local school.“How are you?” he asked. “Not great.” she replied. “ I’ve been having some trouble with my back and I’m going to need an operation.” “Oh, the back is the most dangerous place to operate on!” he responded. My mum had that and she was in terrible pain. “Make sure you get all your affairs in order before you go under the knife — it takes months to get over it!” Geoff was out of kindness. He’d given his own mother’s story to show sympathy. However, Mum only heard pain, danger, knife, and months.

In the past few weeks, Mum’s mates and colleagues have told her stories about how their Auntie Trisha, who had just received an operation was left speechless after hearing that she required a rapid follow-up operation; and how their neighbour, who had only a minor operation, never walked again .

It’s really not that difficult to think of alternative things they could have said that would be equally true, but more beneficial to hear. “The specialists in our hospitals are among the best in the world. It’s amazing what they can do these days!”— that’s a good one. “You’re going to feel much better afterwards.”— that’ s another.

I’m not suggesting patients should be sheltered from the reality of the risks they’re taking. But if the decision to have an operation can’t really be avoided, what’s the purpose of emphasizing the drawbacks (弊端)? It’s just common sense to say: “Get well soon, and how can I help? ”

1. What does “psychological theft” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Psychological disorder.
B.The negative comments.
C.The comforting words.
D.Physical disability.
2. How might the author’s mum have felt after hearing what Geoff said?
A.Sympathetic.B.Relieved.C.Worried.D.Moved.
3. What lesson does the author want to teach us?
A.Treat patients with admiration.
B.Communicate more with other patients.
C.Be well-prepared for unavoidable operations.
D.Find an appropriate way to comfort patients.
