I’m writing to you because I feel like we’ve grown distant lately. I know you have two little babies now that take up most of your attention, but I want to remind you that I’m your dog. My name is Max, and I am here long before those two troublemakers joined our family. The older one, Hannah, keeps trying to ride me. She knows I’m not a horse, right? Let’s remember that I’m 11 now. That’s 77 years old to you, friend. So how about showing me some respect I deserve?
Anyway, I’m still an official part of this family. I know I have made mistakes with food, but those kids are covered with so much food. It’s like an alcoholic living in a wine store. I have tried harder not to eat their food, but this business of forcing me to the backyard for most of the day was unacceptable.
And when you told your wife Kate that you wanted to drop me off in the valley to live with wolves, well, that hurt my self-respect. And did you have to do it right in front of me? I might be old, but I can still hear.
Remember the old days? By the time you came into the picture, I had already known Kate for three years. And then you came along. I knew she liked you so I welcomed you into our world. I remembered one night, she asked me if I thought you were the one. I barked “yes” repeatedly because I thought you would take great care of us. And you did.
Look, I know you’re a father of two now, but please try to include me a little bit more. That’s all I’m asking.
Sincerely yours,
Max the Puggle

If I close my eyes, I can still have a clear picture in mind of my first home. I walk in the door and see a brown sofa surrounding a low glass-top wooden table. To the right of the living room is my first bedroom. It's empty, but it's where my earliest memories are.
There is the dining room table where I celebrated birthdays, and where I cried on Halloween-when I didn't want to wear the skirt my mother made for me. I always liked standing on that table because it made me feel tall and strong. If I sit at this table, I can see my favorite room in the house, my parents' room. It is simple: a brown wooden dresser lines the right side of the wall next to a television and a couple of photos of my grandparents on each side. Their bed is my safe zone. I can jump on it anytime - waking up my parents if I am scared or if I have an important announcement that cannot wait until the morning.
I'm lucky because I know my first home still exists. It exists in my mind and heart, on a physical property(住宅) on West 64th street on the western edge of Los Angeles. It is proof I lived, I grew and I learned.
Sometimes when I feel lost, I lie down and shut my eyes, and I go home. I know it's where I'll find my family, my dogs, and my belongings. I purposely leave the window open at night because I know I'll be blamed by Mom. But I don't mind, because I want to hear her say my name, which reminds me I'm home.

Love gives meaning to life as without love life is meaningless. Lucky is the person who gets love and keeps the flames of love burning forever. It is not a matter of days or months. Love is for life and life is for love
It is easy to fall in love but difficult to keep the flames of love burning. Before having serious long - term love relationships, be sure that the person you love is also sincere with you. A selfish person can make your life terrible. If this is the case with you then try to get rid of that person as soon as possible.
Most people do not give importance to their love life as they give importance to their professional life. This is a bad choice which ruins the whole life. A balance between the two is necessary in order to enjoy life in its entirety. Do not lose the love you need.
In order to make your life more exciting and enjoyable, you need a loving and caring person with whom you can share your values, dreams, joys and jokes. In difficult times of failure, pain, or loss of dear ones, this person should stand firm beside you and comfort you in every possible manner.
Love your life and love the person who is in your life. Keep the flames of love burning to live a great life.

【推荐3】Our body’s response is an important part of an emotional reaction to any event. If you’ve been criticized in public and found your face heated and your heart pounding, you’ve experienced your body’s reaction to shame.
Sometimes what you’re feeling is clear and consistent with what you’re saying. You might say “welcome” as you greet a guest with a smile. But at other times, we mask our emotions from the people around us. There are many reasons to hide how you’re feeling. You don’t want to rock the boat in a strict teachers class or you don’t want to hurt a friend’s feelings. You simply want to smooth situations over.
Even when you don’t communicate your feelings in spoken words, you may still be giving information with your body. Arms across your chest when you approach that new teacher? Looking down when you speak to your friend? These gestures are all important expressions of an emotion. Try understanding what others are communicating with their bodies. Notice things like eye contact, rate of speech and posture. How does their verbal communication match their body language? How about you? Try tuning in to your own body. How do you think others see you? Is that consistent with how you feel? Is it how you want to feel?
Body language communication is a two-way street. It communicates to others what you are feeling, but it also has a powerful effect on your own emotional state. Changing your body and posture can affect how you feel. Sit up in the meeting and you might find yourself more focused. Take a deep breath and you feel less anxious.
The body and your body language is a great field to dig into, especially if hiding how you feel has become habitual for you. Over time, if you become practiced in hiding your feelings, you may begin to hide them from yourself, too. Then the consequence can be losing contact with your own emotions. That’s actually harmful to your mental health.
1. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean?A.make trouble | B.study |
C.apologize | D.go boating |
A.By listing data. | B.By giving examples. |
C.By providing definitions. | D.By analyzing previous results. |
A.the significance of taking exercise |
B.the necessity of hiding our feelings |
C.the effects of body movements on our feelings |
D.the importance of using postures in communication |
A.We should practice controlling our feelings. |
B.Body language is hard for us to understand. |
C.We may try to record our feelings more often. |
D.Hiding feelings for long does harm to our health. |

Brad Ryan had been feeling tired of studying in a vet school when he visited his 85-year-old grandma in 2015. He hoped that spending some quality family time would help lift his spirits.
As he was telling his grandma stories of his travels, however, he was heartbroken to hear that she had never seen the ocean or mountains. Ryan then asked his grandmother if she would like to go hiking with him. Needless to say, she was more than happy to agree.
They have since visited 29 different national parks across America---from the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado to the Acadia National Park in Maine. Over the four years, Ryan and his grandma have driven 25,000 miles through 38 states. And it has greatly affected his quality of life. “Seeing it through my grandmother’s eyes, who every morning wakes up and is thankful to be alive has taught me how to live,” Ryan said. “With her, I’ve had to slow down and see life in a different way, which has made it a lot richer.”
“I love my grandma so much, and it’s just really giving me a lot of peace when she passed away. I can go back to these places, feel her spirit, and feel connected to her,” he added.
Ryan posted all of their trips on Facebook. He hopes more young people will spare time to be with their elders. “I want young people to know that hanging out with your grandparents is cool. And there’s so much we can learn from our elders,” Ryan said.

Rereading and highlighting (划重点) are common strategies that you will see in schools around the world. Students look at information they have already read in an effort to remember what is important. Students often combine (结合) rereading with highlighting. They underline important information in what they read.
Both rereading and highlighting are ineffective study tools. While better than not studying at all, they are not as useful as other habits. For example, with rereading, it’s maybe not that effective because you are not trying to actively get the information back. With rereading, what is going to happen is that it is going to feel like you already know the information because you’ve already read it. So, you have this sense of fluency that is leading you to think “OK, yes, I know the information.”
The problem with highlighting is that students have a false sense of understanding-similar to when they reread information. Also, there is a second problem that comes with highlighting. Students aren’t always aware of what the most important information is. So it’s possible that they are maybe highlighting details that aren’t as important as the higher level concepts.
So what should you do if rereading and highlighting are not the best ways to study for a test? One idea is to test yourself. Simple flashcards and practice exams can be helpful when you want to make sure that you have learned something.
Another strategy is to practice remembering the new information over time, instead of doing everything all at once. Regardless of which strategy you choose, you should know that effective learning takes time and it takes effort.
The next time you have a test coming, try to plan for the big day so that you can give yourself time to develop different study habits. And remember, rereading and highlighting are better than not studying at all, but there are better methods out there!
1. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?A.What to reread before tests. |
B.Why rereading is not a useful study habit. |
C.How to actively get the information back. |
D.How to combine rereading with highlighting. |
A.Putting all your efforts into it. | B.Doing exercises every day. |
C.Doing self-examinations. | D.Making sure to learn something. |
A.They are better than nothing. | B.They will lead to failure. |
C.They will be replaced | D.They are useless and harmful. |
A.No Pains, No Gains |
B.Avoid Ineffective Study Methods |
C.Take Measurevs Only When in Urgency |
D.Advantages of Common Review Methods |

It sometimes seems that most of the designers are just going back to ideas that have already been around at least once before. If you really want to know what the future of fashion is, you need to look at an area that is always looking forward: technology. The meeting point of fashion and technology is where the really exciting new ideas are.
For several years now, people have been talking about wearable technology as the next big development. In fact, some products that fit this description are already in the shops. You can buy watches that do everything your smart phone can do, or glasses with computers in that follow your eye movements and feed information to you as you walk around. But there's much more to wearable technology than that.
Sports clothing is one area where new ideas are developing very fast. Runners and other sports people already wear small computers on their wrists that give them continuous information about how fast they're running, how hard their bodies are working and so on. Experts agree that it's often sports people (usually young men) who are the first to take up new fashion ideas. Others then follow.
Women, it seems, are usually more interested in what clothes look like than what they can do, and technology has a part to play here too. Designers are already making clothes that can change color with how you are feeing, or react to sound. And if you think that sounds unlikely, Just think of all the things we accept as quite normal today that seemed impossible or silly only ten years ago.
The main reason that things like this aren't yet in normal shops is that they aren't cheap. But, as with all technological products, the price will surely come down fast. In any case, technological clothing doesn't have to be expensive.
1. What does the author want to tell the readers in the first paragraph?A.Technology develops faster than fashion. |
B.The old fashion ideas are more popular. |
C.Fashion can develop with technology to be creative. |
D.Fashion and technology are always going forward. |
A.technological clothing would be affordable to most people. |
B.only sports people are interested in technological clothing. |
C.women do not care about the function of technological clothing. |
D.technological clothing will not be popular with women. |
A.Doubtful. | B.Objective. |
C.Optimistic. | D.Negative. |

They are named after Donald Dinnie, who carried them across Potarch Bridge in 1860. Just one woman, Jan Todd, lifted them in 1979. Leigh Holland-Keen became only the second woman to do it. She said,“It was fantastic, quite an emotional experience. I felt crazy to be able to do that, and having the crowd being so positive created an amazing atmosphere.”
Holland-Keen, 29, who is an Australian nurse, was inspired by her mother and stepfather’s love of weight training, and started going to the gym when she was only about 14. She first attempted to lift the stones last year, while accompanying her mother and stepfather who had come to try it (her stepfather successfully lifted them in 2009). She hadn’t expected to attempt to lift them and hadn’t trained for it, but couldn’t pass the opportunity up.“I tried it and was very close, so I thought maybe I could actually do these within the next couple of years,” she says.“My mum and I made it our goal to train and get these up.”
She also says,“The appeal of weightlifting is in not giving up. It’s good to constantly challenge yourself. If you can’t lift it up the first time you try, it’s something to work towards. You keep persevering and then you can do it. It feels good to achieve it. Training can go so well and then on the day anything can happen. If I did make it, it would be fantastic. If I didn’t, I would just come back next year and try again.”
Holland-Keen borrowed some replica(复制品) Dinnie Stones rings and loaded them with weights and trained in her garage three to four times a week, for up to two hours at a time. She says, “It’s getting better but there is a common myth that if you lift heavy weights, you’re going to look very manly.”
