A CV is a sales document; it conveys the information of what you are looking for and why. Why you are qualified for such work, covering your previous work experience, education, qualification and interests, so effort should be made to make CV as clear as possible in order to sell you most effectively for the post which you are applying for.
Profile
The profile should be a short sentence stating clearly:
•What work you are looking for
• What you have to offer (Why you are qualified)
I believe in starting the CV with a profile. This explains to the employer what you are looking for and summarizes all of the attributes ( 特质) that can be found in detail on the rest of your CV.
The employer knows what they are looking for. If your profile states this in summary, then you are making their job a lot easier and they are more likely to put you in the “yes" pile, as they quickly check a large volume of CVs.
Work Experience
Work experience should come directly after the profile in reverse chronological (反向时间 顺序) order. The first thing an employer will look at is the last job you have had and if you had the relevant experience or achieved something relevant to the job you are applying for in previous roles.
Education
Education should be also in reverse chronological order.
Other Qualifications
If you have attended any training courses or have industrial qualifications they should be entered here. Remember this is a sales document ― list everything you have done here — sell yourself!
Interests
Qualify you hobbies and interests. Do not mention a thing like "I like to go running" without qualifying it as to what has been achieved. For example, it would be better to say “I am part of the Harriers running club.” or “I recently completed the Great North Run."
1. If your profile states your attributes in summary, you'll____.A.make your job a lot easier |
B.be sure to persuade the employer |
C.be more likely to get the job |
D.fail to pass the interview |
A.tell everything you've experienced in detail |
B.place the Profile after the Work Experience |

She hadn’t yet heard of wildlife biology, but that’s what she was learning about. She wanted to be a vet, a person who can treat sick or injured animals, at first. She said, “I always knew I wanted to work with animals, and as a kid, that was the only job I knew where I could do that.” But when Belleny was in college, her dad advised her to learn wildlife biology instead of veterinary(兽医学).
Later, Belleny started working on research projects. One project involved placing trackers on a bird called the northern bobwhite. For another, she spent time feeding goats, as a way to protect a grass habitat for endangered box turtles without hurting them.
Belleny’s current job at Plateau Land and Wildlife Management lets her split her time between the indoors and outdoors. It also lets her work with people. “In the mornings, I’m usually out the door before sunrise,” she says. She observes birds, keeping track of different species. And she searches for signs of what other animals in the area are doing. Around lunchtime, she’ll return home and write up a report. In the afternoon, she leaves for another site visit. She advises people on how to protect the wildlife that lives on their farm. Her work takes her all around Texas.
Outside of work, young Belleny has been bird-watching for seven years. Her first book This Is a Book for People Who Love Birds was published in May, 2022. Now she’s working on a children’s book about birding, which is scheduled to come out in spring 2024. Belleny has some advice for young people thinking about careers. “Try everything you’re interested in through books and libraries. If you’re into wildlife biology, go to a library and find some field guides. After learning much information, you can do research work more easily”.

There are two rules to remember. One is to present yourself perfectly and stress your areas of competence. Second, listen carefully.
The job interview is the time to “sell” yourself by giving examples of experiences you’ve had related to the job and by revealing your good points. It’s a good idea to have handy job resume(简历) or a list of school courses that prepared you for the job.
The job interview is an important part of the job search, and the attitude and impression can make the interviewer feel “with you” or “against you”. Remember that you have the power to create a favourable impression.

B.Don’t talk about your successful experiences |
C.Of course, each of us has sensitive areas |
D.Get involved in what the interviewer is saying |

The reality of college can be pretty different from the images presented in movies and television. Instead of the students who wake up late, party all the time, and study only before exams, many colleges are full of students with pressing schedules of not just classes and activities, but real jobs, too.
This isn't a temporary phenomenon. The share of working students has been on the rise since the 1970s, and one-fifth of students work year round. About one-quarter of those who work while attending school have both a full-course load and a full-time job. Such jobs can also be critical for developing important professional and social skills that make it easier to land a job after graduation. With many employers looking for students with already-developed skill sets, on-the-job training while in college can be the best way to ensure a job later on.
But it's not all upside. Even full-time work may not completely cover the cost of tuition and living expenses. That means that though they're sacrificing time away from the classroom, many working students will still graduate with at least some debt. And working full time can reduce the chance that students will graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes.
There is little reward for attending but not finishing college. Students who end up leaving school because of difficulty in managing work and class are likely to find themselves stuck in some of the same jobs they might have gotten if they hadn't gone at all. The difficulty of working too much while in school can create a cycle that pushes students further into debt without receiving any of the financial or career benefits.

PointGrab developed its technology before the epidemic to help workspace managers optimize(优化)how employees use office space. About the size of smoke alarm, the sensors can record the exact number and location of people in buildings including offices, hotels and restaurants.
One of the company's first customers was Deloitte, which installed the system at its flagship London office last year. PointGrab's sensors were connected to screens in the building to show the availability of desks and shared areas in real time. PointGrab CEO Doron Shachar says it was one of a range of innovations that helped Deloitte fit 30% more people into 3% less space.
Now PointGrab has adapted the technology so the sensors can also monitor social distancing by keeping track of how far apart people are, and whether they're traveling in one direction around a building.
Workspace managers can set up warnings for when two people are closer than two meters for more than 30 seconds, for example.
The sensors have been included in the “six feet office” concept created by real estate(房地产) services company Cushman and Wakefield to encourage employees to practice social distancing. They are currently being used in this way at a university in the Netherlands, and at an innovation hub in Belgium.
While the social distancing innovation is new, PointGrab has deployed ( 部署)more than 10,000 sensors for workspace optimization, including in the offices of Coca-Cola, Facebook and Dell.
Workers might not like the idea of being monitored, but PointGrab says no images or identifying features are recorded. Instead, each employee is represented as an anonymous(无名的)dot on a dashboard.
“The sensor does respect people's privacy,” Shachar says. “This is extremely important the workspace.”

"I think it helps build up their confidence and their independence," Charleston-based chef and mother-of-two Aimee Jones said. "They say, ‘Look, I can do this. I can make and feed myself something yummy.’ Especially when they can share it with their parents, it definitely helps them build confidence in themselves."

Aged eight, rough and noisy like any child travelling to an exciting place miles away from their own home, I was seriously reminded by a supervising teacher to stay in one place. To ensure this happened, and that I did not escape to a closed-off exhibition area the minute her eyes turned elsewhere, she forced me to hold the hand of a quiet, modest girl in my class, the typical teacher’s pet.
Already feeling incredibly self-conscious, the moment took a turn for the worse when a fellow classmate eyed our interlocked hands. With a finger pointing accusingly towards us, he said, “God, I can see her hand turning black already.”
That night I came home and cried in the shower. My own secret purchase of a Dove beauty bar failed to wash off the thick layer of dark grime (污点) onto my skin. For the first time I was forced to confront the vast valley between who I thought I was and who I actually was.
Race proceeded to become something I struggled with all throughout adolescence. In stories like these, the climax (高潮) usually comes during university. To an extent, that was true.
In your hands today is an edition that celebrates stories like mine, of lives and experiences informed by race.
While race is the source of many of our struggles, it is also the location of our characteristics, dearest stories, and most loved people. We have come to understand life better from our race. As people coming from an ethno-cultural (种族文化的) minority, our race informs, but does not single-handedly define, who we are.

He came to Beijing for a cooperative research at Beijing University two years ago. Such an academic life was colorful with a chance offered by the cultural exchanges project, “I’m in China”.
Bradley was lucky to win the most “likes” for his photo story about his life in China and became one of 20 winners to visit locations by the project this summer. All the winners’ experiences were filmed to produce a reality show, My Chinese Working Day, which will be broadcast by mid-September.
Bradley was chosen to work as a recreational manager for a Chinese wedding. The film crew took them to many “amazing sites” and the staff at the resort taught them a lot about how to incorporate modern Chinese features while still keeping traditional customs.
“I would have to say two things stick out as the most memorable: the helicopter ride and talking with the staff at the hotel about how they organize weddings here in China,” he said. That was Bradley’s first time to be in a helicopter, and he was too absorbed with the “stunning” view of the coastline.
“I think it is so important to show other Australians the different landscapes China has to offer. I think so many Australians, when they think about China, imagine the historical sites of Beijing and the exciting things to see in Shanghai but have no idea about other beautiful places, like Sanya or the many other places people have been taken to in this TV series. It was nice to experience these little touches. I was happy to be a part of that experience!” Bradley said.

Your daily journey to your place of work is probably a mad dash for the bus. There is no point in taking your car because there are traffic jams, and anyway the car parks are probably very expensive or, worse still, full. Here is where Powerisers can help. It takes just a couple of minutes to put them on and then you are away, going past others or even jumping over the object which blocks your way.
That is the practical use for our product, but then there is sport and exercise. Powerisers are set to be the next extreme sport and the deep-fit tools. You can imagine the 100 meters, the high jump or basketball performed by athletes wearing Powerisers. And what better way to build your muscles and keep fit?
Our product is very simple. It is powered by a superlight spring, which uses the gravitational(重力的) pull from your body weight and pushes you with superhuman strength. There have been no records of serious injury related to the use of Powerisers, but extreme caution is recommended. We strongly advise the wearing of protective clothing, including at least a helmet(头盔).
Powerisers make you feel as if you were walking on the moon. Now we make two different models: Basic and Professional. The Basic model is designed for the occasional users and costs around $ 500. The blue whale had almost died out from the Southern Ocean by the time a ban (禁令) on hunting it was introduced in 1967. Sightings of the largest mammal ever to live on the Earth had been extremely rare in the region since then. Not any more. A survey of coastal waters around the island of South Georgia in the sub-Antarctic, has obtained remarkable, uplifting results. In just over three weeks, in the krill-rich(富含南极磷虾的)waters of what was once their main feeding ground, the movements of 55 Antarctic blues were recorded by the British Antarctic Survey. The finding was described as, “truly, truly amazing” by one cetacean specialist.
The blue whale belongs lo the category of those animals which stir up the public emotions and help drive environmental campaigns. Three years ago, the Natural History Museum fixed a 25m skeleton (骨架)of a blue and named it Hope, intending to stimulate humans to better coexist with nature.
The more general comeback of the whale can be an inspiration for victories yet to be won. It could also act as an added power to take measures immediately on the climate emergency. Warming oceans, which destroy food chains are becoming a deadly threat. Ecological wrongs can be righted with enough will and organization.
Of the 55 blue whales identified, some were seen but others were only heard through recorded audio. Awareness of ecological wrongs is not enough. We must make sure the Antarctic blue is hack to stay.
1. What can we know about the blue whales’ comeback?A.It shows the hunter's failure. |

Afterwards he was asked what he liked best about the play. The pirates? The crocodile? Peter Pan flying through the air? The child’s response was surprising: “What I think I liked best was tearing up the program and dropping the bits on people’s heads”.
The audience who left the theater with bits of paper in their hair probably wouldn’t agree with the boy on the best part of the play. Neither would the caretakers in charge of cleaning the theater afterward. But when J. M. Barrie, the creator of “Peter Pan,” heard the boy’s comment, he was delighted. He wasn’t offended that the boy hadn’t paid closer attention to the play. Instead, he considered it one of his favorite reactions to his work.
All of us have to deal with decisions made by others – their words, actions and attitudes – that could be considered offensive. This can be particularly difficult when we feel that the values and traditions we hold dear are being rejected or even laughed at.
But just as someone might choose whether or not to do something offensive, we can choose whether or not to be insulted(侮辱). We can choose to give others the benefit of the doubt and not assume mean intent behind their actions. We can love people even if we do not love their choices. After all, isn’t it more important – though perhaps more challenging – to love a person than to love words or actions?
Accepting people does not mean approving of or forgiving their decisions. It does not mean giving up our own rights to think and act differently. Nor does it mean we will never feel sad or hurt or disappointed. But at a deeper level, we can be at peace if we focus on love – for love has the power to overcome our disappointment, frustration and pain. And who knows? Our love may even soften a heart. But even if it doesn’t, the best approach is still to let love, peace, patience and kindness rule the day.
1. Why does the author mention the play “Peter Pan”?A.To support an argument. | B.To make a comparison. |

B.Love people’s words and actions. |
C.Love people with a tolerant attitude. |
D.Do something to prevent being insulted. |
A.Let love rule the day |
B.How to overcome pain |
C.Love is sometimes challenging |

Homeric laughter
The “Homer” in this expression is the Greek poet who wrote The Iliad and the Odyssey. People laugh differently. Some laugh silently, while others tend to laugh loudly. “Homeric laughter” refers to laughter of the latter (后者) kind. It is at times uncontrollable, and the entire body shakes during the process. This kind of laughter is called Homeric laughter because this is how the gods laughed in Homer’s classics.
Faustian bargain
According to most stories, Faust was a German scholar who was rather unhappy with his life. The devil( 魔 鬼 ), Mephistopheles, promises him that in return for his soul, he will give Faust unlimited power and knowledge. Faust agrees and experiences all kinds of pleasures, but, in the end, his soul is condemned to the hell (下地狱). A “Faustian bargain” therefore is a deal that finally results in one's ruin. It means a bargain made for temporary gain without taking future consequences into consideration.
A three-ring circus (马戏团)
When you refer to a situation as being a three-ring circus, you are saying that it is a situation of complete confusion. There are so many activities taking place all together that they leave you confused or annoyed. The expression comes from the world of entertainment — the circus. The area where the artists perform their acts is called the “ring”. In the past, some of the circuses were so grand that they had three acts taking place simultaneously in three different “rings”. The audience had to decide which “ring” they wanted to focus on.
In the swim (of things)
When someone is in the swim of things, the individual is actively participating in the things happening around him, as in “I've been ill, but soon I'll be back in the swim of things.” In the world of fishing, fishermen use the word “swim” to refer to the section of the lake/river where fish can be found in plenty.
