As a junior high school student, do you need your parents or teachers to be your life mentors (导师)?
Student A: As teenagers, we always have trouble in our life. Our parents and teachers expected us to solve problems by ourselves. But for many reasons, we can’t solve them easily. So it becomes necessary for us to have a mentor when we need help.
Student B: I once had a good mentor so I agree with this idea. Mentors are not like teachers. They can give students very personal advice and help based on their own experience. What’s more, students won’t feel too stressed because they can talk with their mentors freely.
Student C: It’s embarrassing (使人尴尬的) for students to talk about their personal problems. In fact, not everyone can do this. There might also be generation gap (代沟) between students and their mentors.
Student D: Maybe students can get some useful advice from experienced mentors. But I think, the more experience you get from others, the less you will learn on your own. We should learn from our own experience. I prefer to have a life journey of my own with my own stories.
21. For student A, having a life mentor is ________.A.necessary | B.useless | C.embarrassing | D.exciting |
A.he doesn’t think teachers can be mentors | B.he can learn from his mentor’s experience |
C.he doesn’t like to talk about his personal problems | D.he feels to stressed to talk with mentors |
A.wouldn’t truly understand him | B.would be very helpful to him |
C.might make him learn less on his own | D.might be careless to listen to him |
I am not ready to write everything about the accident, but the lesson I learned can help other people. Driving carelessly is dangerous. One day, I was driving on the road. A car across from me seemed to be turning right, but the driver changed his mind and kept going. I didn’t notice that, because I was trying to get my phone. Then I heard a big noise. The accident happened.
Some people saw the accident and came to ask me something, but I was in panic and couldn’t think of anything. I wanted to call someone for help. However, I couldn’t remember my family’s phone numbers. Finally, the police found my bag in the car and my another phone was in it. They gave a call to my family.
From the accident, I hope people can learn to be careful when driving. It’s dangerous to use phones when driving. Don’t drive too quickly. It’s necessary to keep your family’s phone numbers in mind. With phone today, almost nobody tries to remember phone numbers anymore. But sometimes, your mind works better than your phone.
24. Where did the car come from?A.The writer’s left. | B.The writer’s right. |
C.Across from the writer. | D.The writer’s back. |
A.Tired. | B.Excited. | C.Quiet. | D.Scared. |
A.To remember your family’s phone numbers. |
B.To take your phone when you go out. |
C.To call someone for help when you are in danger. |
D.To use phones when you drive on the quiet street. |

Oxfam is a charity (慈善团体) that helps people all over the world. Oxfam started in Oxford in 1942 when a group of people decided to help victims (受害者) of famine (饥荒).
Here are some simple ways you can help Oxfam.
●Raise money for Oxfam
There are lots of fun ways to raise money. Why not organize a concert or a sporting event at your school and sell tickets? Or perhaps you could make cakes or sweets and sell them to people.
●Buy an Oxfam gift
Are you looking for a special gift for a friend? When you buy an Oxfam gift, your friend will get a card and Oxfam will send a gift to a poor country. The gift can be something like a meal, clean water, a tree or a coat. Sometimes a few friends put their money together to buy a big gift, like a water tank (水槽) to give clean water to a whole village.
●Make changes to the world around you
Your friends and family care about what you think, so tell them your ideas. What do you want to change in the world? How you think we can make that change? Talking to people is the first step to make things happen. You can find people with the same opinions and ideas and work together to make the world a better place.
