“How was school today?” Ethan’s mom asked as he climbed into the car.

“Fine.” Ethan answered.

“What did you do?” she tried to start a conversation.

“Nothing.” Ethan answered and turned his attention to his phone.

Ethan’s mom sighed. “Your grandmother and I used to have actual conversations.”

“Huh?” Ethan wasn’t really listening.

“Nothing,” his mother said sadly.

Ten minutes later, Ethan finally looked up from his phone. What are we doing here? He asked, noticing they were at an unknown supermarket.

“Grandma is coming over for dinner tonight and we need to buy something for her favorite strawberry cheesecake. I thought you could help me make it.”

Ethan hated shopping, and he would play his favorite video game rather than bake for a whole afternoon. However, he knew his grandmother would love the cheesecake.

Surprisingly, Ethan realized that he enjoyed shopping and he was also having fun in the kitchen helping his mom after they got home. While all of this was happening, the two actually talked, and Ethan remembered several interesting things from school.

It was great to see his grandmother again at dinner too. The last time they met was several weeks ago, and he realized that he had a lot to tell her.

“Wow, Ethan, I don’t think I’ve heard you speak this much in a long time,” Ethan’s mom smiled.

“Well, when you were Ethan’s age, Norah,” Ethan’s grandmother said gently to his mother, “you used to spend your whole life in your room!”

Ethan’s mother turned pink, “That’s not true, mom!”

“In fact,” Ethan’s grandmother winked (眨眼) at Ethan, “I had to get her to help me make this very cheesecake to even get her to talk to me.”

From the other side of the room, Ethan’s phone rang. But Ethan realized that this conversation with his mother and grandmother was much more interesting.

文章大意:本文介绍了方便面的发明和对人们的影响,以及现在方便面的销量下降的原因。

Eating food is enjoyable, but cooking can be challenging. For those who don’t have basic cooking skills, or are too busy working or traveling, one thing can save them—instant noodles.

This year marks the 63rd anniversary of the invention of instant noodles. Ever since they were created by Japanese businessman Momofuku Ando in 1958, instant noodles have been popular around the world. In China, the product has almost become a necessity for those who travel by train.

There are some fun facts about instant noodles: The total length of the noodles in one package is 51 meters. The first instant noodles were considered a luxury(奢侈的)product. When they first came to Japanese supermarkets in 1958, they were 6 times the cost of fresh undone noodles. Japanese people even voted instant noodles as one of their best inventions of the 20th century.

For instant noodles, as well as many other “instant” foods, convenience is the key selling point. They are supposed to make our lives easier.

_______________.For example, in wars, soldiers eat compressed biscuits and canned meat because they don’t need to cook these foods. And in the 1960s, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables became popular in the US. This is because more women started working and had no time to cook.

In recent years, however, online meal-ordering services have brought challenge to instant foods. Uber Eats is a popular app of this kind in the United States. In China, we have Dianping and Meituan. These services offer not only convenience, but also more choices and tastier food. According to the World Instant Noodle Association, instant noodle sales dropped by 17 percent in China as of 2016.

This might show that Chinese people are now more interested in having higher-quality diets and not just simply filling their bellies, experts say.

29. Which country did instant noodles start from?
A.The UK.B.The US.C.China.D.Japan.
30. If you need to help your parents order food online in Guangzhou, which app can’t you choose?
A.Uber Eats.B.Ele.me.C.Meituan.D.Dianping.
31. Which sentence can be put in the beginning of the fifth paragraph?
A.Food trend often reflect changes in society.
B.Different country has different kinds of instant food.
C.The development of instant food changes the society.
D.More and more people were interested in instant noodles.
32. What can we infer from the passage?

B.In 2016,only 17% of Chinese people bought instant noodles.
C.Many American women didn’t like cooking food in the 1960s.
D.Chinese people are interested in having higher-quality diets now.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述了大自然对于我们的好处以及大自然应该是我们生活的一部分。

How do you feel about nature? After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park?I believe the answer must be “YES”. We should walk into nature so that we can enjoy the natural beauties around.

Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However, humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. For example, the number of visitors to Canada’s national parks is getting lower every year. And in countries such as the USA, only 10% of teenagers spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel that this is a problem in the twenty-first century.
As a result, some doctors are studying the connection between nature and health: one example of this is the work of Dr. Matilda in Sweden. The doctor gave people a math test. During the test, their heart rates (心率) were fast. After the test, one group of people sat in a 3D-virtual-reality (虚拟现实) room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature. Their heart rates were slower than people’s in the other group.
The virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed. The natural world allows our brains to rest and slow down, and can trigger positive feelings and a sense of peace. Being in nature can leave us feeling happier and less stressed. Another good example of how nature is good for health comes from Canada. In Toronto, researchers studied 31,000 people living in the city. In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.
Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want nature to be part of people’s everyday life. In Dubai, for example, there are plans for a new shopping mall with a large garden so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. In Switzerland, “forest schools” are popular. Schoolchildren study their subjects in the forests and do lots of exercise outside. And South Korea (韩国) is another good example: it has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year. So after building cities for so long, perhaps it’s now time to start rebuilding nature.g
Nature holds a special kind of energy: it is pure and wild and spirit-renewing. In a word, we human being cannot live without nature, and Mother Nature makes us grow stronger.
33. What does the underlined word “trigger” in paragraph 4 mean? ________
A.Cause.B.Improve.C.Help.D.Reduce.
34. What do the results of the studies show? ________
A.More and more Canadians will live near parks.
B.The math test is difficult and makes people nervous.
C.Nature can help people feel more relaxed and be healthier.
D.People’s heart rates get slower in a 3D-virtual-reality room.
35. What can we infer from the last sentence of the passage?   ________
A.Nature is more important than cities.
B.Country life is healthier than city life.
C.People have lived in the cities for so long.
D.Nature should be part of people’s daily life.
36. What can we learn from the passage?   ________
A.31,000 healthier people live near parks in Toronto.
B.A new shopping mall with a large garden will be built in Dubai.
C.10% of teenagers spend time in national parks every day in the USA.
D.About 13 million schoolchildren visit new forests every year in South Korea.
