Sam and Mike worked in the same office and they were friendly to each other. Last summer the two men went to a city by the sea for their holiday. They visited a few places of interest, swam in the sea and then lay on the sands. They had a good time there.

But one day, when they were swimming, a shark pulled the poor young man to the bottom (海底). Mike heard him calling for help and swam to him in a hurry, but it was too late. The shark swallowed Sam. Mike was very sad and returned alone. There was something wrong with Sam’s mother. He didn’t know how to tell her about the bad thing.

At last he asked his friend Robert to go with him. Robert worked in a hospital.

“Bad thing for you, Mrs Black,” said the young man, “a shark swallowed Sam’s swimming suit (游泳衣).”

“It doesn’t matter”, said the woman, “I can buy a new one for him. But where was he now?”

“He was in his swimming suit!”

The buses in Curitiba (库里蒂巴), a city in south Brazil, carry two million passengers a day—that’s 85% of the city’s population. You buy your ticket before you get on the bus. The price is the same wherever you’re going. No one in the city lives more than 400 meters from a bus stop. People don’t use their cars much in the city, so there’s less pollution.

Japanese bullet trains (子弹头列车) travel at up to 320 kilometers an hour. The 520-kilometer journey between Tokyo and Osaka (大阪), the world’s busiest high-speed line, takes just three and a half hours. It would take seven hours by car. Bullet trains are used by many local people. They’re popular with foreign tourists, too, because, as a tourist, you can buy a rail pass which gives you unlimited (无限制的) travel during your trip in Japan.

Copenhagen (哥本哈根) is known as “______”. A third of the people who live there go to work by bike. In fact, you see more bikes than cars in the city center. There are 350 kilometers of cycle paths (道路). You don’t even need to have your own bike, you can use a city bike, which is free.

A good way to travel in Singapore is by river taxi. It’s not expensive and you get a great view of the city from the river. River taxis are popular with local people, tourists and anyone who wants to get from A to B. Each taxi can carry up to 60 passengers.
