My father was very terrible to me, either for the money or his love. He was also the same even when I got into middle school. I had to walk home every day after school. The school is about two kilometers from home, but he never came to drive me home. If I moaned, he would say in his father-like voice, “That’s what your legs are for! Stop moaning and don’t be such a lazy kid.”

I was always afraid to walk along the highway in the dark. I also felt that my father never loved me. But something became different on a spring evening. After long hours at school, I had to go home on foot again. I took my heavy schoolbag to start the way back home.

There were a lot of bushes (灌木丛) along the way. When I arrived at the Chinese noodle house, I felt kind of happy because it meant that I was almost home. Then, I saw a grey spot (点) going along the top of the bushes. To my surprise, I found it was the top of my father’s head. Finally, I knew each time I came home, he stood behind the bush, watching, until he knew I got home safely. Saying nothing, I got on my way home...

We all know that bridges go over rivers, lakes, and highways. They can take cars（木头）and rope? The rope stretched across the river for people to hold. Later, people used the stones and steel（钢）to build strong and big bridges. The first steel bridge came out 254 years ago. It was just like the ones we see today.

There are names for different kinds of bridges. A bridge over a road called overpass. A bridge for us to carry water is called an aqueduct. You can drive a boat on an aqueduct! A long high bridge for people carry a road is a viaduct. And a long bridge over a sea is called a causeway. People can take a walk on a causeway.

Building a bridge is not an easy job because it usually takes many years, costs much money and needs hundreds of workers. For example, workers must build supports（支撑物）first under the water. And after that workers must spend a lot of time building piers. They are like the legs of the tables so they can hold up the bridge. This job can be really difficult in summer.

Today, bridges become a symbol of a city’s culture. Many people around the world come to San Francisco and Hebei to visit the Golden Gate bridge and Zhaozhou Bridge.

I’m Louis. The first ten years of my life was perfect—until（直到）my parents told me a piece of news. Before I tell you, let me describe a great day of mine before.

Every morning, my mom woke me up by kissing me and my great day started. My dad was only better. When I got up, the good smell of breakfast reached my nose. To make me happy, he even make Micky Mouse pancakes for me every day just to make me love my breakfast.

Then, during the drive to school, three of us sang along the way. After school, Dad usually played chess with me, waiting for my mom to cook dinner. We ate and told each other stories about our days. After dinner, Mom never forget her special—an enormous piece of chocolate cake.

Everything was great. And then, she told me that very soon I’d have a little sister. Ugh! For ten years, I was the center of my family and I didn’t share（分享）my parents with anyone.

Later, I found I’d also have to share my bedroom with the baby. That was silly! Don’t even think about using my Disneyland glass. No way! I told my mom I didn’t want a sister. I said I was happy with the way things were. I even told them to take the baby back to hospital and gave her back.

But now, here they are, in front of the door. Dad is carrying the pink blankets（毛毯）, now grandma is going out, too. I know it’s time for me to meet her. Before I know it. Dad put the baby in my arms and I can’t believe the baby is smiling to me! Maybe she knows I’m her brother and she already likes me! Hey, maybe having a little sister isn’t such a bad thing. For me, I think she looks kind of cute and I want to keep her in our family! Who can turn away such a cute girl?
