One day, I was in front of the mall cleaning my car. A man was coming.

My Chinese friends told me that hugging is considered to be very intimate (亲密的) in their culture. It usually only happens between people who are really close to each other, like couples. Chinese people don’t usually hug in public, either.

But people’s attitudes towards hugging can also change. I remember watching a video story about a “hugging party” that was held in Shanghai. A local artist held the party, inviting strangers and asking them to hug each other.

The Chinese participants clearly looked uncomfortable. However, after the party, several of them changed their minds. They decided that hugging doesn’t have to be awkward (尴尬的) and can actually be quite nice. So next time you see your mum or dad, give her/him a hug — see how it makes you feel.

When you and your family go out for dinner, do you notice how many dishes you usually order? It’s fine if you finish all of them. But if you waste too much food, you might pay a fee for it in the near future.

On Dec 22, China’s top legislature (立法机关) reviewed a draft law (法律草案) for stopping food waste for the first time. In general, a draft will become law after the top legislature reviews (审议) it three times.

According to the draft law, restaurants should tell diners not to order too much. They should describe the size or amount of each dish. If customers leave too much food uneaten, restaurants can charge (收费) them for food waste.

The law also bans (禁止) waiters from encouraging diners to order too much food. Those who don’t follow the law will receive a fine from 1,000 to 10,000 yuan.

The draft law also asks schools to teach their students to avoid food waste. It bans livestreams (直播), radio and TV programs about overeating and overdrinking. Producers (创作者) of such programs will face a fine of up to 100,000 yuan.

Food waste happens in many places. In China alone, 35 million tons of food ends up in landfills (垃圾场) every year. About 12 percent of the nation’s harvest (粮食产量) goes to waste, CCTV News reported.

Time management is the greatest challenge for me in high school. I have to take good care of my subjects, activities, social life and rest.     41    .
