How to fight against COVID-19 (新冠肺炎)? We choose some books to help you. The books were translated into 13 languages, including Japanese.

It tries to answer the child’s question “Why can’t I be allowed to play outside?” It tells the child what COVID-19 is, how it spreads, and how we can protect ourselves from it. The pictures show love between family members.
	A Brief History of Viruses for Children (Writer: Changsha White) This storybook tells the beginning of the virus, so the readers can understand the history of the virus easily. The book sets up a “Ten Questions About COVID-19”, helping children readers to understand the virus basing on (基于) reason and science.

As an old Chinese saying goes, “Out with the old, in with the new.” We usually buy some new clothes for different seasons. But what will you do with your old clothes?

Years ago, used clothes were passed to younger brothers or sisters in one family. But now we often wear new clothes. And people are buying more clothes because they are richer than before. Every year in China, people throw away about 26 million tons of used clothes as waste.

In many countries, charity shops collect and resell second-handed clothes. In those countries, people often shop for used clothes at charity shops like Oxfam. The British singer Victoria Beckham often buys from Oxfam. She said, “Here is a message I want more people to know about: Used clothes are not useless. We can give them away to people in poor areas. We can also try to make full use of these clothes in creative ways. For example, they can be used to make things like toys.”

Few Chinese cared about fashion years ago, but now more and more people are interested in it. YISHION, a fashion clothing brand, is inviting people to put their used clothes into special boxes in its 45 stores in China. They resell some of the clothes after cleaning them at a lower price, so people don’t have to worry about any health problem. As many as 95% of clothes thrown away can be recycled. This helps people to cut down resource waste and give their clothes a new life.

With the development of economics (经济), the problem of left-behind children has become a serious social problem. More and more people have realized we should do something to help them.

One of the biggest problems is that the children are all hungry for the love from their parents. Many of them can just get a call or a letter from their parents half a year, a year or even several years, which makes some children nearly forget their parents. When they meet their own troubles, they have no one to talk with. Nobody gives them enough care.

Because of being too far away from their parents, the left-behind children’s study is the second biggest problem. From a survey about their study, only two percent of the children get good results, while ten percent of them are common and eighty-eight percent of them are poor.

What a pity! There are also many other problems of the left-behind children, such as having no ability to protect themselves, unhealthy lifestyles, spending too much pocket money and being crazy about Internet and so on.

In a word, to solve all the problems of the left-behind children needs the government, families and schools to try their best together.

Recently, a short video has become very popular on the Internet. It’s about a girl dancing on the water. Her name is Yang Liu, from Zunyi, Guizhou. Many foreigners think she is able to do Chinese “Qing Gong”. Actually, she was standing on a single piece of bamboo. It’s one of the traditional folk sport—single bamboo drifting (独竹漂).

When Yang Liu was seven years old, she started practicing single bamboo drifting with her grandmother. For little Yang Liu, it was a big challenge. The most difficult part was to keep balance. But the clever girl gradually found the key to keeping balance. After years of practice, Yang Liu could not only stand on the bamboo, but also do some simple performances.

Yang Liu had ever learned dance. Then, she got a new idea to show Chinese traditional dance while standing on the bamboo. It would be a new kind of performance. Although it was difficult to mix the two skills together and it was much easier to get hurt, Yang Liu didn’t give up.

Practice makes perfect. Finally she could dance on the bamboo successfully and beautifully.

Not long ago, she created another new performance, called “Ballet (芭蕾) on the water”, which was quite special. She posted a video of the performance on the Internet. Soon, the video caught a lot of attention and praise. There are more and more people getting to know her. “I’m glad that so many people like my performance.
