USA? Britain? Which country is better to study in? We often hear such discussions. As China opens its door, it is a dream for many Chinese students to study abroad. They want to learn about the outside world.
It’s true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves. Their foreign language skills will be improved and it may be easier to find jobs.
But there are problems that should be considered. Language is the first. Students must spend a lot of time learning another language.
Students must also learn to live without parents’ care and deal with all kinds of things they haven’t had to do before, like looking after themselves. There are reports about Chinese students abroad running into an ocean of difficulties and giving up finally. When they have to take care of themselves, it is hard for students to study well.
Finally, studying abroad brings a heavy burden(负担)to the family. For most Chinese parents, the cost of studying abroad is very high. But is it worth it?
We know that there are many famous people who have achieved success through their hard work in China. Liu Xiang is a good example. Once an American teacher invited him there, but he refused. He kept training hard with his Chinese teacher. He surprised the world when he won a gold medal at the Athens Olympic Games. So when you wonder which country is better to study in, think whether studying abroad is the right choice.

Nowadays in school life, a lot of students develop a fear of tests. It’s not because tests are something to be afraid of. Most students are afraid of tests mainly because they don’t have enough self-confidence and they don’t always think they are well-prepared. If you follow the tips below, it’s not difficult to overcome (克服) your fear of tests.
People who know that they are not well-prepared are usually those who fear tests most. However, most students don’t know when they are truly prepared for a test. As long as (只要) you know that you have studied well and long enough, you have a reason to believe that you are well-prepared.
Be confident about yourself. Confidence before a test can bring about two things: either you fail the test and feel as if your confidence was unfounded (毫无根据的) or you could actually do well in the test because of your confidence. Some students find that they experience the first result. However, this is only because those students might not have followed the first tip mentioned above. As long as you have studied well, you will be more confident of your chance to succeed in a test. If you feel as if you have not studied hard enough, then you will not be as confident as you should be.
Ask your teacher about the main points that may be covered in the test while getting ready for the test. In this way, you will know what you should prepare for and you can get confidence in the test. But you have to be brave enough to ask. Most students do not ask if their teacher doesn’t give the information first, so make sure that you ask.
You should know that tests just check your knowledge and don’t lose heart because of one test failure. As long as you think that there is another tomorrow, you can overcome your fear of a test. However, make sure that you are going to prepare well for the other tests.
Fear can be a problem in the process of achieving success. However, with the right attitude (态度) and preparations, you can overcome your fear of tests by using these tips.

We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day and it does harm to our environment. Though we are young, we can still do something to help. In fact, even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. Here are some ideas for you to live a green life.
Remember these three words; reduce(减少), reuse and recycle(循环使用).
Reduce means “use less”. Don’t waste things. This saves money and reduces pollution and waste going into the environment. Before we buy something new, think if it is really necessary or maybe the old one will be just as good! When we do buy thing, choose local products if possible, and try not to buy too many things from abroad.
Reuse mean “use again”. Use things for as long as possible. When we buy things, make sure that they last a long time. We should take care of them so that they will last, and we should repair them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Don’t use a paper cup or a paper bag. It’s better to use a china cup(瓷杯) and a lunch box because you can use them again.
Recycle means “change things into something else”. Although it takes energy to change something into something else, it’s better than throwing things away or burning them. Find out what can be recycled in your neighbourhood and take part in recycling programmes. We should also buy products made from recycled materials, such as recycled paper, to help save trees.

Jia Meng used to keep a diary in Chinese. But one year ago, the 14-year-old girl from Heilongjiang began to write her diary in English, because Jia found her mother was reading her diary secretly. She changed the language because her mother can’t read English. “It’s like killing two birds with one stone,” said Jia. “My privacy (隐私) is safe and my English improves a lot.”
Jia’s mother is not the only mum who reads her child’s diary. Recently, Renmin University of China did a national survey among over 23,000 parents. The report says that 49% of parents read their children’s secrets. That’s why, like Jia, many teenagers try to find ways to protect their privacy.
Wu Lei, 15, of Shanxi, keeps a diary, too. But he doesn’t write it on paper. He writes on the Internet which he thinks is perfectly safe because his parents know nothing about the Internet.
Lu Huan, 13, of Guangdong, said her parents always secretly listened to the talk between her friends and her on the telephone in their room. To solve this problem, Lu asked her parents to buy her a mobile phone.
“Parents want to know what is going on in their children’s lives,” said Shao Xiazhen, a teenage social worker in Beijing. “But sometimes they go the wrong way.” Shao gave teenagers the idea that instead of hiding their secrets, talking to parents is a better way. “If your parents know that you are safe, they’ll let you keep your secrets. And if you understand each other better, there may be no need to protect privacy.”

It’s a big challenge for you to complete any personal goal in time. And it always seems that you won’t have enough time to finish all you need to do. Do you know the way to make the time for your goal? Here are some tips which may help you.
Focus on(集中)one thing at a time. Remember not to take on too many goals at a time, or your energy will be used up soon. Once one goal is finished, you can go to the next one. Set up at least a month per goal.
Prioritize(优先处理)the most important. We have more than one thing to complete. If we put all the things before our goal, we won’t ever find the time for it. If we put our goal at the first place, we’ll make the time.
Keep your goal simple. It’s important not to make your goal too difficult. If you want to be slim, for example, you just need to develop the habits for your health, walking each day(or running, or cycling etc.), drinking more water, eating fruit and vegetables instead of junk snacks.
Close your door. Try to set a time that you won’t be disturbed(打扰). If you are disturbed from time to time, you really don’t have the time to help out. So you must shut your door when working on the most important tasks. If so, you will get them done better.
Stop wasting time. In our daily life, there are many things wasting your time, such as watching drama series and going to bars. If you don’t do them, it won’t make a great difference to your life. So stop doing them to free up time for your goals.
If you follow the above, you will succeed to achieve your goal.
