Jack’s friend Sally isn’t fine these days.

One day she asks Jack for help. And she tells Jack about her eating habits. For breakfast, she always eats some bread. For lunch, she always has some chicken. She likes eating ice-cream and a hamburger in the evening.

“They’re not healthy for you, Sally.” Jack says. “I know, but I like them.” Sally says.

“What about vegetables? Do you like eating carrots?” Jack asks.

“No, I don’t.” Sally says.

“Sally, don’t eat ice-cream. You must eat some vegetables and fruit. They are good for you. ” Jack says. “I think you’re right” Sally says.

In the next days, Sally always eats vegetables and fruit. And she is well now.

My cousin Bill likes going to the beach on Sunday. Last Sunday it was sunny, he went there with his brother. They got there at 9:00. There were lots of people on vacation. Bill and his brother sat down and began to relax.

Soon Bill found there were lots of empty (空的) water bottles on the beach. He also saw some paper bags on the beach. That made Bill sad. He and his brother began to work to clean the beach. They worked hard. About two hours later, the beach was clean again. At last they put up a sign, saying “No Littering (乱扔)” on the beach. They wanted people to keep the beach clean. After that, they were very hungry. So they went to a restaurant nearby to have lunch. They had two large bowls of beef noodles there, and then went home.

It was a warm sunny day. Mrs. Smith got off the bus and went into a butcher （屠夫）shop. Today, her aunt would come to visit her, so she decided to buy some nice meat for dinner.

As she was going into the shop, a young man followed her into the shop and stood behind her.   After a minute, Mrs. Smith gave a loud scream （尖叫）. The man turned quickly and ran out of the shop.

When Mrs. Smith screamed, a policeman was walking in the street, just outside of the shop. The man saw the policeman and got a terrible surprise. He was so scared that he couldn't move. The policemen stopped him, and found a gun （枪）from him.

“What's this?” The policeman asked.

“No, no, it’s not mine...” The man screamed.

The policeman took him into the police station. The young man was a robber （抢劫犯）.

The butcher was very afraid. “Thank you Mrs. Smith. Your scream saved me!” the butcher said, “but how did you know he was a robber?”

“Me? No, I didn’t know that he was a robber. ” said Mrs. Smith.

“But why did you scream? ” The butcher asked in surprise.

“Well, I screamed because the meat was too expensive.” answered Mrs. Smith.

A man sat at an underground（地铁）station in Washington, D. C. , and began to play the violin. It was a cold day in January. He played six Bach（巴赫）pieces for about 45 minutes. Thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

Three minutes went by and the first person, a middle-aged man, began to find that there was a musician playing. He stopped for some minutes, listened carefully and then went on to his work.

After a minute, a young woman began to put some money in the box before him and started to walk again. Then another two or three minutes went by and someone stood and listened to him for some time, but the young man looked at his watch and began to walk again — he was late for work.

From the beginning to the end, only six people stopped and stayed for some minutes. Twenty gave him money but went on to walk. When he finished playing, no one applauded（鼓掌）. No one knew that the man playing the violin was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world.

This is a real story. The Washington Post（《华盛顿邮报》）asked Joshua Bell to do the experiment.

What do we learn from this story? If we do not have time to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music, how many other things are we missing?

My mother works all day so I have to take care of my younger brother. My little brother is about four years old and he ________ our mother all the time.
