Last month, a new bridge was first opened to the public. It’s ________ hanging bridge for walkers in the world. Guess ________. It is 516 meters — over five football fields long.

Workers started to build the bridge in May, 2018. ________ cost $2.8 million and took over two years to complete. The bridge runs ________ two mountains. At its highest point, it is 175 meters off the ground. Far, far below is a big rushing river. Along the river, there’s ________ eight-kilometer-long wooden walkway. People could enjoy the scenery（风景）and watch ________ there.

Now, the city is hoping that the bridge ________ lots of tourists to the area. The website for the bridge describes the walk across “the bridge as the most exciting 516 meters of your life.” Many tourists, they believe, will come ________ the fantastic experience of walking across.

Some people ________ to check out the bridge before the opening. Jerry was one of them. He said excitedly, “I was a little afraid, ________ there’s no other bridge like this one in the world. It was so worth it.”

Larry seemed always silent and didn’t have any friends. His teacher Mr. Brown ________ this. One day, he asked Larry to meet him after class. Mr. Brown said, “I see that you don’t talk to anyone or show any ________ in anything. What’s wrong?” Larry replied, “Sir, I have a very ________ life. Similarly, we cannot remove sad things that have already happened to us, but we can add sweetness of good experiences in our life. If you keep on crying about your ________ neither your present will be right nor the future will be bright.”

Larry realized his problem and promised to live a positive life.

According to the finding of a new UN report, the world wastes about one-sixth of the food each year. That’s about 1,030,000,000 tons, or 121 kilograms for each person on the Earth.

61% of the food waste is from home cooking. Food services, such as restaurants, produce 26％and groceries (食品杂货店) and other stores 13%. “We thought waste was a problem in rich countries,” says Martina Otto, who works for the UN Environment Program. “However, the new report finds, food waste is a big problem in nations rich and poor.”

Each year, some 690,000,000 people go hungry. At the same time, about 10% of all CO2 on the Earth is from the activities that produce the food waste. Control on food waste can help deal with hunger and cut down that pollution. It is helpful to both people and the planet. By avoiding wasting food, we can save money and time. More importantly, we can help protect the Earth’s most valuable resources (资源).

Then what can we do to stop food waste? Small actions make a difference. Each of us can play a part. Next time, before you throw, think twice!

Don’t think about all the things that can go wrong, like failing at school or your friend leaving you. Thinking like this only results in worry and stress. If you can’t control tomorrow, don’t worry about tomorrow. Just worry about making today great. Because the best way to be happy is just to enjoy each day.

Consider your effort

Think about what you’ve already done. Think of where you are today as a step towards tomorrow. Don’t try to be perfect, just try to do things well—with excellence. Remember that nothing can ever be perfect.     34    

Focus on yourself

Compare yourself to yourself, not to other people. There will always be someone smarter or richer than you. There will always be someone with a bigger house than you. Rather, look at what you have got and who you are, accept and value that. Work toward being a better one than you were last month.     35     And you will feel a lot happier with and about yourself.
