I have always been big. I am comfortable with my body but there is a price to pay for being different.
In primary school, I was crazy about gymnastics (体操) and was actually the team leader in my final year, but I had to make up for my shortcomings. Long after the other girls had left, I would still be in the school hall, trying my best to practice again and again without the coach around. It took months to master the ribbon (带子) and in the early days, I always got my ribbon in a terrible knot (结). However, I carried on and improved a lot.
Whenever I went up in a competition, I always got the sense that the crowd did not expect much from an overweight child in front of them. They talked about my weight in low voices. One man even said, “That’s the ugliest leotard (紧身衣) I’ve ever seen and the elephant inside it seems to be much better!” Hearing their words, you could understand my feelings. However, I just kept silent because I decided to let my ribbon do the talking. I worked harder on my ribbon and it showed.
I was the winner in National Championship that year, but that was not the best thing I got from hours of tiring practice. The best thing was that my body cannot decide who I am and should never limit what I can do. Society seems to believe that overweight people are unhappy with their weight and have low self-confidence, so they never count much. I do not believe that. I believe I can achieve anything because I am bigger than my body.

It first appeared on the streets of New York City. It was set up in a neighborhood in Manhattan. The Little Free Library has space for only one person at a time. There are only 40 books in the library. In fact, it is not a house but a plastic building. The library was made of recycled materials. It looks like an umbrella so that all the books in it can be protected from bad weather. There are also some holes outside the building. They allow readers to look at the books before they go into the library.

You might think that Olympic sportsmen are the healthiest people in the world. It’s true that many are.
However, it’s also true that quite a few Olympic sportsmen had to overcome illnesses early in their lives.
One excellent example is Wilma Rudolph. She competed in track-and-field (田径) events in the 1960 Olympics. She didn’t win just one gold medal. She won three. At the time, people called her “the fastest woman in the world”.
As a young child, Wilma Rudolph could not take part in sports because she had several kinds of serious illnesses. At the age of 4, she even got polio (小儿麻痹症). She lost the use of her left leg, and the doctors said she would never walk again.
The people in Rudolph’s family did everything they could to help her walk again. Wilma and her mother often travelled 100 miles to get medical help for her leg. Four times a day, her brothers and sisters took turns helping her do special exercises for her leg. Amazingly, by the time Rudolph was 9 years old, she was able to walk again. Before long, she started playing basketball and running. In high school, she was a track star, and then she went to the Olympics. Wilma Rudolph left her job as a runner when she was 22 years old. She then became a teacher and track coach.
