A study has found that many among China’s post-90s(in China, that means people born after 1990) are happy to be home alone. And they     24     themselves “indoorsy” people.

Tihar is one of the most important festivals for Hindus in Nepal. The festival of Tihar takes place in late autumn and lasts for five days.

It is a time when people light oil lamps (油灯). This festival is about worshiping (敬仰) different animals such as the crow (乌鸦) on the first day, the dog on the second day, and the cow on the third day. During Tihar, people also worship their brothers and sisters and the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi.

On the first day, people give the crow much rice to eat. They put flowers around the dogs’ necks on the following day. The third day is the most important day of the festival. Early in the morning, people start to worship the cow. The cow is the symbol of wealth. They put tika (提卡) on the cows’ foreheads and some flowers around their necks. They give the cows nice things to eat. People place the cows’manure (粪肥) in different parts of their houses. Later, in the evening, they worship the goddess Lakshmi. If people please the goddess, she will give them wealth. People clean and decorate (装饰) their houses. They put oil lamps in every door and window. A woman of the family performs a special ceremony. She then puts a red mud footprint on the floor entering the home and makes a trail to the room where the family worships the goddess. In this room, there are pictures of the goddess. There is also a money box where each year the family puts money away for the goddess. In the evening, girls go from door to door and sing songs of the goddess. They receive gifts in return.

A beach trip can be fun and relaxing. To have an enjoyable beach trip, you need to make plans for it. Here is some useful information.

Decide which beach to visit. Have a discussion with your family. Before you look for information online, sit down and talk with your family to learn about their ideas. Write down their ideas so that you won’t forget them. For example, maybe your daughter wants to look for seashells（海贝壳）, and your son wants to try some water sports.

Prepare food and drinks for your trip. One of the most important things to bring on a family beach trip is a cooler（冰桶）full of ice and things to eat and drink! Because you will spend a few hours on the beach, your family will need some food and drinks. It’s better to bring lunch for everyone. Some good beach food and drinks are fresh fruit, sandwiches, juice and so on.

A runner falls in a 1500-meter race—and still wins

Dutch（荷兰）runner Sifan Hassan had just come into the final lap（圈）of her 1500-meter round. Suddenly, the runner in front of her fell, bringing her down too.

With 11 runners in front of her, Hassan stood up and started running. At last, she passed five of the fastest runners in the world, winning a medal（奖牌）.

“Believe me. It was terrible, but sometimes I think bad things happen for good. When I fell down, I said to myself, ‘OK, life doesn’t always go the way that you want.’, that, I felt like I had drunk 20 cups of coffee.”

A 14-year-old Chinese diver（跳水运动员）gets two perfect 10s

Quan Hongchan was born on 28 March 2007 in Mazhang District of Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China. She is the third of five children born to a family of farmers. At the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Quan was the youngest player from China. On 5 August 2021, she won the gold medal with a score of 466.20 points, also breaking the previous Olympic record of 447.70 set by Chen Ruolin during the 2008 Summer Olympics. Of her five dives, three were perfect dives. Two of those got straight scores of 10 from all seven judges（裁判）.
