Dog owners often believe that all dogs can swim, but in fact some dogs may not be able to swim at all. Those with heavy bodies, short legs or short noses are often     32     swimmers. A bee colony is a group of bees that live together. Each colony has one mother bee. This queen bee can live for three to five years. She produces up to 2, 000 eggs every day. The other bees make honey _______ young bees can eat in the winter. How do they do this? Bees visit lots of flowers and take the pollen （花粉）home. But as they do this, some of the pollen falls off the bees onto other flowers. The plants use this pollen to make new plants. Thirty percent of the world’s crops need bees to live.

Unfortunately, bees can sting （刺）you if they think you are trying to _______ them. The best thing to do if this happens is to take the stinger out carefully with your fingernail and wash the area with soap and water. Put ice on it for the pain. Some bees die after they sting. Poor bees!

There are many good reasons to keep bees yourself. Once you have done that, you will need wooden boxes to keep the bees in. Teens worldwide connect through video calls to have communication emotionally.

Five years ago, Abhay and a group of his Grade 10 classmates at a secondary school in Canada made their first video call to the Arctic (北极). On the other end of the l    67     was Abhay’s, a 23-year-old brother, Sukhmeet, a volunteer teaching assistant. His class was at a middle school there.

The conversation started with teen’s small talk-asking each other about TV shows, music and school life. But as the teens grew more comfortable, the chat turned s    68     , such as families issues, stories of social problems. Some kids shared how hopeless they felt, for they could do n    69     about the danger or threat caused by the climate change.

After both groups said their goodbyes, the brothers had an idea: since the conversation was designed to broaden the students’ views about life outside their h    70    , let’s keep it on. Students could continue to benefit from bridging geographical and cultural differences. They called their organization Break The Divide.

The students used social media to spread the word about their task to create eye-opening conversations. Other schools began reaching out, and Break The Divide helped them to start their own stations. They p    71     different useful resources, such as a list of guiding questions to get the conversation started, and technical tips for video calls. Different stations are encouraged to connect with each other based on big topics, such as mental health and climate change. There are now over two dozen stations located across Canada as well as schools in other countries.

Last year, Abhay and Sukhmeet had their first employees, enabling them to d    72     an app that will act as a social platform to connect Break The Divide stations worldwide.

The brothers are happy to find that the organization can play a central role in how youth solve the most d    73     problems. “I hope that we can be part of creating a world where we are all listening to each other for learning and for change, “says Abhay.

A 70-year-old man decided to take part in 70 different sports on his 70th birthday. He did quite a good job. When asked why, he said it was simply to have some fun. He had played sport as a youngster and never stopped. Here is what the old man said to a reporter about his doing sports that year.

What was the sport you tried first?
Shortly after my 70th birthday, I tried paddle-boarding. Family members were greatly entertained watching me first try to get on the board, then stand on the board and finally fall into the water before trying all over again. The lesson I learned was “Perseverance paid off”. Eventually I stood, I balanced and I paddled. It was an early success. Then I started to teach myself the basics of figure skating. They made it look so easy on the screen. But trying a simple spin （快速旋转） left me falling down on the ice, my elbow and knee hurting. I refused to give up. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. In this case, I learned the skills of the sport-enough to do a very short program-and performed it for my family and anyone else who happened to be around at the community club.
Besides the fashionable sports, were there any regular sports among your list?
There were some individual sports I took turns to do during the day: running, jumping, walking. For track, I built my own high jump and hurdles.

Sure. My family’s support was essential. My wife photographed every event for me to check later. My three sons were always ready for a game, like beach volleyball. The game brought the whole family together.
Definitely you had fun. What else kept you doing such a variety of sports?
There were some health advantages, too. Over the longer term came the realization that dreams are important, regardless of how unbelievable they might seem. As we age, our hopes and dreams may change, but one should never let them disappear.
