Willow Branches at the Olympics Closing Ceremony

In ancient China, when relatives or friends said goodbye, people often broke willow branches (柳枝) down and gave them to those who would leave, and hoped they would come back. In Chinese, “willow” has the similar pronunciation to a Chinese word “留”, which means asking a person to stay. It’s not “goodbye” but “see you again soon”. At Beijing Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony, the whole world enjoyed an amazing performance. The performers perfectly acted with the LED floor to show the picture of willow branches. They went into the caves. Then he and Huckleberry went to where he had seen Injun Joe. He held up his candle, and they saw a big cross on the wall.

“Number two, under the cross!” said Tom. “That’s what he said.”

①The natural world is colorful with humans, plants and animals showing different colors. Human skin can be many different colors and it changes with the sun, our feelings, or our health. This is because of pigments(色素), which reflect light and make what the eye sees as colors. So, when we feel excited or angry, our heart sends more blood to the face and the pigments in the skin become red.
