History has recently been rewritten by Eileen Gu, and not only once. In just 24 hours, the Chinese teenage skier had won three medals, including two golds, in three events at her first Winter X Games(世界极限运动会冬季赛). She became the first Chinese athlete to have ever won a gold at the event.
Just about one year before the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing are set to begin, the teenage girl already fixed her eyes on winning golds on home snow. If she keeps such great form(竞技状态), the rising star will get a lot more in the future. It’ll be surprising to all the people if she becomes the next Chinese sports icon(偶像).
Born in 2003 in the U. S., Gu has an American father and a Chinese mother. She had her first taste of skiing when she was only three years old. She began to attend international competitions on behalf of the U. S. in 2017. Two years later, Gu made a great change in her life. She changed her nationality to Chinese.
One possible reason for this is her deep emotional connection(情感纽带) to her Chinese roots. “When I was a child, many people called me a Beijing girl,” Gu explained. “Every time I went to China, I felt like I had come back home.”
But Gu has an even greater dream as a Chinese skier. She wants to encourage more Chinese people to get to know and take part in the sports.
