Back in February, Giorgio Lo Porto, an Italian living in the UK, posted a video on TikTok about his new neighbor—and their unbelievable connection. It started when Giorgio left a note to his neighbor, praising the nice piano performance and requesting one more song called “My Heart Will Go On”.
As the music burst through the wall from the other side, the neighbor’s answer was clear. And their exchange soon turned into piano duets(二重奏). The two pianists agreed to “meet” on the weekend. “This was our way of saying, ‘I don’t know who you are, but I’m here. You are not alone.’” Giorgio said.
The neighbor’s name was Emil and he was 78 years old from Poland. He lost his wife in December due to the COVID-19, and the only consolation left to Emil was his piano. He played the music his wife loved at 2 p. m. every weekend.
Later, Giorgio shared his very own piece titled “Dear Emil”. “When I wrote that song, I started picturing Emil’s life. An old man lost the love of his life because of this stupid virus. He’d spent days alone at home due to the lockdown(封锁), playing his wife favorite piano piece every weekend until a note appeared on his door. * . Although they didn’t know who was playing, it didn’t matter. You can be the light to somebody else’s darkness.” said Giorgio.
On March 14th, he received word that Emil had left the world forever in his sleep. “And now he is reunited(团聚)with his wife.” Giorgio wrote, “But dear Emil, you’ll be in my heart… You said I was your light, but you’ve been mine too. Bye, Emil!”
36. Giorgio wrote a note to Emil mainly because he ________.A.felt a little homesick for Italy | B.wanted to play the piano duets with Emil |
C.hoped to comfort the lonely old man | D.loved Emil’s music and expected to enjoy more |

A.Then he was in trouble. |

D.And a new friendship started. |
A.Giorgio and Emil did piano duets every weekend after Emil’s wife’s death. |
B.Emil’s excellent performance aroused Giorgio’s interest in learning the piano. |
C.Giorgio’s note brightened up Emil’s belief and love for life. |
D.The experience didn’t have a special meaning to both the pianists. |
A.Light Each Other in the Darkness | B.Reunion in the Music |

Li Zihan is a 13-year-old girl from Beijing. These days, she and her friends have been doing unusual things. They imagine themselves to be fairies and dance in their bathrooms. Li even dyed(染色)her mother’s white dress blue, believing that it would look better.
“We might have the so-called “chuunibyou”(中二病), thinking we are so different and having a bunch of(一连串)crazy ideas,” Li said. “I have to say it’s a little funny and silly.”
Chuunibyou comes from Japanese. Japanese radio host Hikaru Ijuin first used the word “chuunibyou” during a radio program in 1999. It means “Middle School Second Year Syndrome(综合征)”. Teenagers around 13 or 14 years old are more likely to have it, but it can happen to people of any age. “Chuunis” often act as if they knew everything. They believe they are cooler than other people and can do great things. Some even believe they have special powers and are destined(命中注定的)to save the world.
Wang Liren, a professor at Northeast Normal University, said that when students reach puberty(青春期), they become eager(渴望的)to show that they are different and independent. Sometimes they overdo it. That is where chuunibyou comes from.
But chuunibyou doesn’t really need to be treated(治疗). It’s just a phase(阶段)of growth that many people may experience. Although it is silly, it shows the passion(激情)that young people have and the possibilities they dream of. There are many chuunibyou teenagers in anime(动漫)and TV series. They may seem silly, but they can also be inspiring.
