Jenny lived in a small village. When she was a child, what she liked to do most was to watch the blue sky and enjoy birds flying freely in the sky. She always ________ that some day she could also fly like a bird.

We all know that foods will easily go bad if they get too warm. So we usually put them into our fridges to keep cool in hot weather. But can you make it without fridges?   

In 1995, Abba, a teacher from Nigeria, found a cool way. His invention was called Pot-in-Pot(罐) Cooling System(系统).   

It uses two clay(陶土) pots. There is a smaller pot inside a lager one. The space between the two pots is filled with wet sand. Fruit, vegetables or drinks can be put into the smaller pot. A wet cloth covers the whole cooling system. Some food can be kept fresh for several weeks in it.   

Abba built five thousand pot-in-pot systems for the villagers in his hometown. Then people all over the country began using the invention. Soon it became popular with farmers in other African countries.   

In 2009, Abba got a prize—the Rolex Award. If you are trying to do something to improve human life, you may have the chance to get this prize.

Internet buzzwords(热词), a newly-born form of cultural expression, have became popular among young people.   

Why do buzzwords become so popular? Because people like to search for similar groups. In the similar groups, people use the same way to express themselves, which makes them feel they belong(属于) here and are accepted by each other. Buzzwords are just this kind of way for people to find such groups.   

However, some think that the buzzwords cause people’s poor language use. It is not true, for Internet buzzwords should never be thought as a simple symbol. For example, “yyds” expresses that one person admires(仰慕) somebody. It may seem that these people are not using complete words, but in fact, what they are doing is adding colors to daily life.

Sometimes young people can not express themselves through the common language. But the problem can be solved by encouraging them to read books. The popularity of buzzwords should not be the cause of the problem. We cannot consider it as a wrong thing. Only by accepting new cultural forms with an open mind can we move ahead step by step and make progress in the coming times.

Food waste is a big problem around the world. While some people throw away unwanted food, lots of people in other parts of the world face food shortages.   

In order to reduce (减少) food waste, many countries in the world like Germany and France have food banks. People and grocery stores (杂货店) can give extra (额外的) food to them and they can give the food to those in need. Shanghai Oasis opened China’s first food bank in 2015. In five years, it saved so much food and helped 760, 000 people.   

Many fruits and vegetables go to waste because they look ugly. For example, about 25 to 30 percent of carrots don’t make it to the store because of their looks. So try to buy ugly food next time, since it is just as good as “common” food.   

Many Chinese restaurants are telling people to order dishes by using the “N-1” formula (方案). “N” stands for the number of people in your group. So it you’re in a group of six people, you should order five dishes.   

To reduce food waste is a big task, and it needs time. Everyone can do something to make a difference.
