“Am I No. 1?” Xu Mengtao couldn’t believe she was the champion in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, so she asked again and again.

Xu was born in Liaoning in 1990. She once lived in a 36-square-meler apartment with her family and grew up next to a barbecue stall（烧烤摊）. Her father Xu Xuejun, a sports fan, was not able to become a professional athlete（职业运动员）himself. He placed his hopes on Xu Mengtao.

Before she joined the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Xu Mengtao had won many gold medals in international competitions. But she hadn’t got a Winter Olympic gold medal. She was at the sixth place at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. She won the silver medal at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia. In 2018, she failed to win a medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea. For the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, she kept on fighting even though she had been badly hurt before. Of course, she finally made it.

According to a study by the famous British magazine Nature, our planet has been greening since 2000. And China plays an important role in the world’s greening.

It’s reported that from 2000 to 2017, China accounted for about a quarter of the world’s new green work. At present, China has 231 million hectares（公顷）of forest（24.02% of its size）and 265 million hectares of grassland.

To support the Paris Agreement（协定）actively, China has made promises to the world: By 2030, China’s CO₂ emission（排放）will have dropped by more than 65% over the 2005 level; Non-fossil（非化石）energy will take about 25% of main energy use; Forest will increase by 6 billion m³ over the 2005 level; The total of wind and solar（太阳能的）power will reach over 1.2 billion KW.
