文章大意:本文主要是介绍来自北京101中学的6位学生对于关爱老人所做的义举,呼吁人们关爱老人。

Have you ever thought of what life is like for old people? Have you ever helped old people who live alone? Can they get help when they need it?

Six students from Beijing 101 Middle School looked deeper at this question and wrote a proposal(提案) to the China Youth Model Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(全国青少年模拟政协活动). They advised building more old people’s service stations in the neighborhood. They also gave suggestions about how governments, neighborhoods and hospitals can work together to make this happen.

An old people’s service station is different from a nursing home. It offers things like daytime care, cooking, cleaning and friendship to old people who live in their own homes. The students surveyed more than 1,100 people, about 90 percent of them said they would prefer using the stations’ services to moving into a nursing home. However, there are not enough of these stations, and many are not run very well.

The six students came up with a solution after reading more than 60 surveys, interviewing 108 people and visiting 25 different organizations. Their proposal beat out almost 100 others to win the Best Proposal Award(奖项) in 202l.

“This experience helps me to better understand the importance of caring old people. Also I see the light and abilities in us,” said Xu Wanqing, one of the students.

阅读理解-单选(约330词) | 适中(0.65)
文章大意:本文主要是介绍地震发生时,海洋会发生海啸,海啸对沿海居住的人有危害,人们已经设置海啸报警系统来减少危害。

Have you ever imagined what will happen in the ocean when an earthquake happens underground. If you’ve ever felt a big earthquake or seen one on television, you know that it has the power to shake the ground and move large buildings. When a great earthquake happens under the ocean floor, the earthquake’s large energy is transferred (转移) to the water above it, creating a series of water waves called a tsunami (海啸). The word comes from the Japanese words tsu (harbor)and nami (wave).

Normal ocean waves have an average wavelength (波长)of about 100 meters and an average height of about 2 meters, while a tsunami can have a wavelength of 193 kilometers or more. Travelling at up to about 800 kilometers per hour in the deep ocean, a tsunami might be at a height of as little as 0. 9 meters, which makes it almost impossible to be noticed, even for a ship in the area.

As a tsunami approaches (靠近)a coastline, things begin to change greatly. As it approaches shallow(浅的)waters, the wave speed drops below about 80 kilometers per hour. The wavelength also decreases much, but amplitude—the height of the wave from the lowest to the highest point—increases greatly, leading to the huge wall of water along coastlines, which causes great damage to coastal areas.

About 80% of tsunamis happen in the Pacific Ocean. Tsunamis cannot be prevented, but areas that experience tsunamis regularly have developed tsunami warning systems to give as much advance warning as possible to people who live along the coastline. For example, there are tsunami warning signs and warning sirens (警报器)atop nearby hills along Japanese coastlines. And many coastal communities there have built tsunami walls, floodgates and others to stop or change the direction of water from incoming tsunamis.

36. What do we know about the tsunami in paragraph 1?
A.The word tsunami comes from the Chinese words.
B.It happens before the earthquake under the ocean floor.
C.It is a series of water waves on the ocean.
D.The tsunami is the same as the earthquake.
37. According to the passage, tsunamis are hard to find mainly because of _________.
A.their low soundB.their fast speed
C.their low heightD.their short wavelength
38. What does the underlined word “decreases” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.changesB.reducesC.developsD.produces
39. The last paragraph is mainly about _________.
A.how to study tsunamisB.where tsunamis always happen
C.what tsunami warning systems includeD.how to reduce damages caused by tsunamis
40. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.An earthquake is sure to cause a tsunami.
B.The greater amplitude causes the huge water wall.
C.About 80 percent of tsunamis happen in Japan.
D.Tsunamis can be stopped by warning systems.

阅读理解-七选五(约240词) | 适中(0.65)
文章大意:本文介绍了电子垃圾正迅速成为全世界的一个严重问题,针对这一问题,本文提供了一些可能的解决办法。

E-waste is fast becoming a serious problem around the world. This report will examine this problem and provide some possible ways to solve it.

51     It is often cheaper to buy new products than to repair old ones. Also, through clever advertising, companies always encourage people to change their old TVs, mobile phones and computers for the latest models. E-waste is created when we throw away old ones. In the EU alone, about 8,700,000 tons of e-waste is produced each year. Sadly, just over 1,000,000 tons is recycled.

Burying e-waste or burning it cause serious problems for the environment.     52     These things can then get into the ground or pollute the air when they are burnt.

53     However, their plans are not always managed properly. Sometimes electronics are just sent to poor countries such as Ghana and Nigeria. Here they are often burnt in public areas, which is very bad for people’s health. Setting up recycling centers is a good way to solve this problem. E-cycling centers could recycle the parts that can be reused and deal with the rest properly.

54     This means that producers must take back old products. They should then make sure old products are properly recycled or reused.

As for us, we should try to cut down on e-waste.     55     And don’t buy a product just to have the latest model.

E-waste is a serious problem in the modern world. Both producers and users must take actions and try to keep it to the smallest amount.

A.Change electronics only when we have to.
B.We are producing and using electronics all the time.
C.Electronics have lots of dangerous things in them.
D.We should change our electronics as soon as possible.
E.In recent years, many countries have started recycling e-waste.
F.Electronics are safe things so we don’t need to change them.
G.Another way is to make producers responsible for their used products.
