Ever since I came to China, I sometimes eat things I would never have eaten at home in the UK. Some of them I would call “strange” or even “scary”!
I remember when I first ate Sichuan hotpot in China, I felt like my mouth was on fire! But the most surprising part was when a friend wanted me to eat rabbit head! I was shocked when I saw it. When I looked at it, I remembered my pet rabbit when I was a child!
But I didn’t want to be rude(无礼的), so I tried some. It wasn’t bad although it was too spicy(辣的) for me. I was told that rabbit head is one of the most popular snacks in Sichuan. A 2016 report said that Sichuan people ate 300 million rabbits that year! That’s amazing! The next “adventurous(新奇的)” food I tried in China was fried scorpion(蝎子). I can’t think of any food like this in the UK. And scorpions are really rare in the UK because it’s too cold. The scorpion I had was for a crispy snack. As I swallowed(吞咽) it and could feel its pointy(尖的) tail, I kept thinking—aren’t scorpions poisonous(有毒的)?! It turns out that after being fried, scorpions are not poisonous, as long as you don’t eat too much of them.
I wonder what my friends will want me to eat next time. But trying things from other cultures and stepping out of your comfort zone(舒适区) can really help you get on in a different country and enjoy the experience.

It’s quite natural for us to make mistakes. However, if you make the same mistake for three times or even more, you’re too silly to be forgiven. How do you avoid making the same mistake again in daily study? I think keeping an error(错误) correction book after class is a good way. Mistakes must be corrected in the students learning. Correcting is more valuable over the long term, especially for ninth graders. An error correction book can help you in these ways.
Pay attention to your mistakes in time. When correcting mistakes, students will think seriously and improve from correcting mistakes. Always looking over your own error correction book can make up for your knowledge gaps.
Develop good studying habits. The reasons why students make mistakes are as follows: They don’t fully understand what they have learned; They don’t remember what they should remember; They are too careless.
To find out the reasons for the mistakes, students will avoid the above points. And then they won’t repeat them. Gradually, they will develop the good habits of listening carefully, remembering things and overcoming problems.
Provide the helpful basis(要素,基准) for the final review. The error correction book can become one of the most useful tools. It can help students to avoid making similar mistakes in the exam. The error correction book is valuable for every student.

Chinese are very generous when it comes to educating their children. Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the United States or Australia. They also want their children to take extra-curricular activities where they will either learn music or dance, or other classes that will give them a head start in life. Chinese believe that the more expensive the education is, the better it is. So parents will spend unreasonable amount of money on education. Even poor couples will buy a computer for the son or daughter.
However, what most parents fail to see is that the best early education they can give their children is usually very cheap. Parents can see that their children’s skills are different, maybe good in some areas, but poor in others. Most parents fail to realize that today’s children are in need of self-respect and self-confidence.
The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take tests and how to study well, but parents are not teaching them the most important skills—they need to be confident, happy and clever. Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooking, sewing and doing other housework.
Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking requires patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and self-confidence.
Some old machines, such as a broken radio or a TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and interested. He will spend hours looking at them, trying to fix them; your child might become an engineer when he grows up. These activities are not only teaching a child to read a book, but also to think, to use his mind. And that is more important.
