Last week I went to a supermarket. After I _________ the bill and was passing through the door, the alarm (警报器) suddenly rang. A guard ran toward me and ordered me to _________ him. He took me to a small room and closed the door. I was afraid and thought he was going to _________ me.

At around 5 p. m. on July 20, Yu Ting’s two children and her mother Li Lan were trapped in a car in the flood while Li was driving the children home from school. The car had stopped working and the doors and windows could not be opened.

Li waved her hands to draw people’s attention, but nobody noticed her because of the heavy rain. She then called Yu Ting for help. Surprised and worried, Yu tried to stay calm and think of ways to rescue (救援) them.

“I asked my mother to tell me about any nearby shops. Then I found their phone numbers on food-delivery and store-rating apps.”

Yu called Lu Lianmeng, the owner of a convenience store (便利店). “Lu said he wasn’t in the store and would ask others to help. Then he called Li Kunpeng, the manager of a nearby hotel.” Yu said.

Li Kunpeng rushed to the car. He tried his best to break the window and shouted for help as well. Then more people came, including the owner of a noodle shop, two security guards (保安), and so on. They brought tools and worked together to break the glass. Finally, Li Lan and the children were saved.

The story was described as a “textbook rescue”. In a video posted online, 11 people were seen taking part in the rescue. Their warm-hearted help has moved a lot of people.

Last Saturday, I went to my cousin Chen Yu’s first month party. On the way there, I asked my mum     56     we needed to buy a present for Chen Yu. Mum said that for the first month party, people     57     to give the baby a red packet, instead of a present.
