I usually wake up late on Saturdays. But today I woke up early because it was our vacation day—I was going camping for the first time of my life.

I stayed in my room and thought about what the camping trip would be like. My friend Harry told me that when his family went camping, they swam in a big lake. My grandpa told me that he enjoyed taking long walks through the forest when going camping. My cousin Edward said that when his family went camping, they made a campfire, had a barbecue (烧烤) and told funny stories. I wasn’t sure what my parents had in store for us, but I knew it would be fun.

My parents packed the car (把行李装车). I never knew it could take so long. I also had no idea why we needed so many things just for a weekend away! At 10:00 a.m., we finally could leave!

“Emily, you didn’t get much sleep last night. You can get some in our car,” Mom said.

I said no. I didn’t want to miss anything—not even the car ride!

Last week, I needed to buy a new sleeping bag for a winter camping trip. So I went to a camping store.     51     There I compared (比较) three different kinds of sleeping bags: Ultra Comfort, Snowy Down and Northern Trek.     52     For winter camping, the Snowy Down had the highest rating (级别). But in some ways, the other two sleeping bags were better. Of the three sleeping bags, the Snowy Down was the warmest, but it was also the most expensive. The Northern Trek was cheaper than the Snowy Down.     53     However, the Ultra Comfort was warmer than the Northern Trek. Lastly, the Ultra Comfort was not so heavy as the other two sleeping bags. It was easier to carry (携带).

    54     It wasn’t so warm as the other two sleeping bags. But we were having a not much too cold winter.     55     So I looked more closely at the Ultra Comfort. That was the one I chose.

Many people know LEGO. It is from Denmark, and appeared in the 1950s. In about 1960, people began to make LEGO bricks (积木) using a kind of plastic (塑料) called ABS. With ABS plastic, the LEGO bricks won’t be broken easily. People can use them over and over again.

However, ABS plastic can’t be recycled (回收利用), and it takes a very long time to break down. That’s a big problem. There is serious plastic pollution around the world. And LEGO makes about 110 billion bricks every year.

To help save the earth, LEGO began to make new bricks in 2015. These bricks wouldn’t pollute the earth so much. Three years later, the factory began making some LEGO parts, like trees, out of a kind of special plastic. The plastic is made from sugar cane (甘蔗).

LEGO is now trying to make bricks out of PET plastic. This kind of plastic can be found in things like bottles and clothing. People can make LEGO bricks out of recycled plastic bottles. The factory is working to find out a way to add color to the bricks—right now they’re just white.
