Going back to school every September can make most students feel stressed. However, some schools in China try to make an easy and relaxing beginning.
Teachers from a high school in Hebei held a treasure hunt challenge to change the feeling of getting back to school for students. Teachers hid coupons in surprising places around the school, such as the top of bookshelves or the bottom of basketball hoops. Students must try to collect the coupons, and then they can use them to exchange some gifts.
Is carrying your suitcases up and down in your dorm building a headache? Zhejiang University City College has come up with some interesting ways to solve this problem. They use a scaling ladder to lift luggage (行李) from the first floor. Students can sit in their dorms and wait for their suitcases. Meanwhile, in the Department of Sports Science of Zhejiang University (体育生) must do the three-metre jump to get help for carrying luggage.
Getting along with roommates can be difficult when everyone has different habits and personalities. Chengdu University offers a “roommate selection system” based on big data, which means that after students fill out the questionnaire, including questions about their hobbies, sleeping habits. Their roommates will be automatically assigned (自动匹配) by the system based on their habits and personalities. This way, students have more control over who they share their room with.

Crying babies, buzzing mosquitoes (蚊子), ringing car alarms ...They’re all bad noises. But what’s the worst? A recent survey (调查) lists the things we hate to hear.
The list of horrible noises has over 100 items. Mobile phone ringing appears near the top. Other noises include barking dogs, electric leaf blowers, loud snoring (鼾) and banging noises early on a Sunday morning.
However, Top One on the list was the sound of a dentist’s drill (牙医的钻头).” That just sends shivers down my spine,” said one person: “After a visit to the dentist, I sometimes wake up at night with that sound in my head. It’s horrible,” said another. “I’ve seen patients shaking with fear when I bring out the drill,” explained a dentist. Of course, anyone who goes to the dentist and hears the sound will probably agree with that.
But there’s some good news. A new device (装置) developed by experts at universities can reduce the sound of the drill. The small device allows patients to listen to music on an MP3 player without the sound of the drill. However, patients are still able to hear the dentist’s voice because not all sounds are filtered out (被过滤).
The theory behind it is simple. Microphones are placed close to the dental drill. These pick up any sounds and transform them into digital signals. Then, electronic filters reduce any unwanted sound waves. However, the great thing is that this technology also allows other noises (such as the dentist’s voice) to come through.
It’s easy to use, too. Patients simply plug (插) the device into their MP3 players. Then they can listen to music and hear the dentist’s voice without being disturbed by the noise of the drill. Fantastic!
So, next time you go to the dentist, remember to bring your MP3 player.

C.a dentist’s drill | D.a mobile phone ringtone |
A.I feel very sad about that. | B.It brings me good luck. |

The months came and went. There was much food and no work in the Southland, and White Fang lived fat and happy, he also learned a new way of expressing his love.
Once the master took White Fang out to ride, suddenly a rabbit jumped under the horse’s feet, it frightened (使惊吓), and the master Weedon fell to earth and broke a leg. White Fang ran angrily to the horse, but the master’s voice stopped him, “Home! Go home!”
White Fang didn’t want to leave him alone. He looked at Weedon for a while, went away, then returned and whined (呜咽) softly, “That’s all right, old fellow, and tell them what happened to me. Go!”
White Fang knew the meaning of “home”. He knew he should go home. He turned and ran away. Then he stopped and looked back at his master.
“Go home!” Weedon shouted, and this time he obeyed.
The family were chatting and waiting for Weedon on the porch (走廊) when White Fang arrived. The children welcomed White Fang with glad cries and ran to meet him. White Fang growled (咆哮) and tried to push by them.
Weedon’s father Judge Scott came up. White Fang stood before him, growling fiercely. “Go away! Lie down!” Judge Scott shouted angrily at White Fang.
White Fang stopped growling and stood, head up, looking into their faces. His throat (喉咙) worked but made no sound.
“He’s trying to speak, I believe,” Weedon’s wife Beth said.
At this moment, White Fang finally turned all his words into a burst of barking (一阵犬吠).
“Something must have happened to Weedon.” Said Beth.
They were all on their feet now, and White Fang ran down the steps, looking back for them to follow. For the only time in his life, he barked and made himself understood.
