What are Chinese 24 solar terms (节气)? The 24 solar terms have a long history in China. They show the sun’s motion (运动) every year. And they tell the earth’s tropical movement and change of cold and hot seasons. Dongzhi (winter solstice) is very important. It is usually on December 21st or 22nd. On that day, the night is the longest and the day is the shortest. To celebrate (庆祝) Dongzhi, people usually eat dumplings (jiaozi) with their family or friends.

I’m Li Ming. I live in Chongqing, a city (城市) in the southwest of China. It is a beautiful city with lovely people. They are making our city more and more (越来越) beautiful.

My home is only about 10 minutes’ walk to school. Every morning, I see a lot of people on my way to school.

Look! The street cleaners are cleaning the street. Mr. Zhang is one of them. He starts working very early (早). He sweeps (清扫) the streets carefully. I want to thank him for making our city beautiful and nice.

Mr. Ma has a bakery. He opens his shop early and he’s busy all the time. But I can always see the smile on his face. He loves his work. And people often go to his shop to buy bread and cakes.

Mrs. Liang’s small bookstore is next to Mr. Ma’s. She starts working early, too. There’s a Story Time in her bookstore every Friday evening. She reads the children interesting stories.

We can buy beautiful flowers in Mrs. Hu’s flower shop. She goes to the flower market (市场) early every morning to buy flowers for her shop.

That’s Mr. Lin’s Clothes Store. We can buy great clothes in his store. Sometimes people can even buy the clothes for their dogs there!

They are all lovely (可爱) people. They do their best to help us have a happy life.
