Long long ago, a lion was sleeping in the sun. One mouse jumped on his face and then fell to the ground.

“I will kill you!” the angry lion cried.

“I’m sorry. Please let me go. I have children,” said the mouse.

“You are of no use to anybody. You are even too small to cat!” the lion said.

“Don’t say that. Everyone has his value (价值). I can make a promise. If you let me go, one day I’ll repay you,” the mouse said.

The lion laughed,“Really? You want to save a lion? How silly you are! I am so strong and you are too small. Go away now and never show your face again.”

The mouse ran away quickly. After that, the mouse made up his mind to keep his promise.

One day, people caught the lion and put him in a cage(笼子). The lion was very sad. At night, he saw the mouse standing outside the cage. “Why are you here?” the lion asked. “I come to save you!” the mouse answered. Soon, the mouse began to work very hard. After many hours, the mouse bit (咬) through the cage. The lion went out of the cage quickly and ran into the forest. Before he left, he looked at the tired mouse and said, “I will remember your help forever. I will tell other lions not to kill the mice any more in the future.” From then on. lions didn’t kill mice.
