In order to save the little ducks, the man took the 13 eggs and placed them in an incubator (孵卵器). When the little ducks were born, they first saw the man, named Rick, and now they know him. This is shown in a new video on the Internet, with millions of views.
“She never came back,” Rick says in the video of the ducks’ mother. “There are feathers (羽毛) everywhere.” The one-minute video of the ducks following Rick around was sent to the Internet on Sunday by his neighbor Matthew Sargent. On the video, people also found Rick’s daughter, Carlisle, playing with the ducks.
“I asked my neighbor about what he plans to do with the ducks, and clearly he is going to keep them at his home for a while, and train them to use the bathroom in one part of his yard,” Sargent talked about Rick. “He also said he is going to wait till they grow up and then take them to live in the little lakes in our neighborhood.”
Rick will probably clean up more than just feathers over the next few weeks, but he will also have a new reason to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Years ago a farmer owned land along the seacoast (海岸). He often asked people to work on his farm, but most people didn’t want to work on farms along the seacoast. They feared (害怕) the terrible storms across from the Atlantic Ocean.
Finally, a short, thin man, about forty, got to the farm. “Are you a good farmhand (农场工人)?” the farmer asked him. “Well, I can sleep when the wind blows,” answered the little man.
Although surprised at this answer, the farmer still had to take the man. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from morning to night, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man’s work.
Then one night the wind cried loudly outside, jumping out of bed, the farmer took a lamp, rushed next door to the farmhand’s sleeping room. He shook the little man and shouted, “Get up! A storm is coming! Get everything ready before they are blown away!”
The little man lay in bed and said quietly, “No, sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows.” Annoyed (恼怒的) at the answer, the farmer decided to let him go away. He hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his surprise, he found that all of the things had been covered with tarpaulins (防水油布). The cows were in their houses, and the chickens were in their houses, too. Everything was ready for the wind. Nothing could be blown away.
The farmer then understood what the farmhand had meant, so he returned to his bed to also sleep again while the wind blew.
Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life? The farmhand in the story was able to sleep because he did well in his work and kept the farm safe in the storm.

Let’s imagine you are taking a walk along the road and you happen to see one or two waste bottles lying on the grass beside the road. What would you do?
As for young kids, they may always have such a question, “When do I grow up?”
As for us, fourteen-year-olds, who are finishing middle school, we’ re no longer younger children. We should know whether or not we have grown up. When we start to have a sense of offering a helping hand for a cleaner city and greener world, and when we have a loving heart to think more of others than of ourselves and are ready to help them, we can say that we have grown up.
A.These are interesting questions |
B.You may have different choices |
C.If this is your choice, you have walked even further |
D.Remember: If we help others, others will help us |
E.By doing this, you have walked a step further to help make our home clean |

There are parkrun events in over 20 countries now. Every Saturday morning, people gather (聚集) at their local parks or nearby forests to run or walk 5 kilometers.
Paul Sinton-Hewitt is the person who came up with the idea. On 2nd October, 2004, Paul and his wife Joanne together with 11 friends arrived at Bushy Park, London and had the first parkrun event. Later, parkrun became more and more popular.
Parkrun events take place on Saturday morning in parks or other open spaces. Everyone is welcome and the finishing time doesn’t matter. The main goal is to encourage (鼓励) people to keep healthy. Now, many parks offer junior parkrun events, too. They take place on Sunday morning. The distance (距离) is 2 kilometers and they are for children aged 4 to 14.
To take part in parkrun events, all you have to do is to register (注册) online. Then you can run in your local park with other members.
People love parkrun for different reasons. Elaine Berri is one of the runners. She said, “I can’t run fast. But the volunteers and runners always encourage me to keep going.” Another runner Eric Sila said, “The runners are from different cultures. It’s interesting and has a positive influence (积极的影响) on me.”
