A young man came to a farm to look for a job. When the farmer asked for his qualifications (资历), he said, “I can sleep in peace ________ the wind blows.” This interested the farmer. He liked the young man, and gave him ________ job.

Scientists have created a healthy clone (克隆) of a black-footed ferret (雪貂) by using DNA from a ferret. They call the ferret Ann and she is the first-ever cloned US endangered species (濒危物种).

Every living thing has DNA—a special code that tells it how to grow. Usually an animal gets half of its DNA from its father, and the other half from its mother. Cloning uses the DNA to create a new copy.

By the 1970s, most scientists believed that black-footed ferrets were extinct (灭绝的). In 1981, a group of black-footed ferrets were found in Wyoming. The US Fish and Wildlife Service caught 18 ferrets there and tried to keep and protect them. All but seven died. Now there are between 400 and 500 such ferrets. But Ann is cloned from a ferret that lived over 30 years ago, so her DNA is very different. Scientists hope that this DNA can make future black-footed ferrets much healthier.

Ann is health y now. Soon, she may have some cloned brothers and sisters. And later, she will have babies. Her children will have babies with wild (野生的) black-footed ferrets, her DNA will begin to spread.

Have you ever stayed in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often provide guests (客人) with things like disposable (一次性的) toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and slippers.     31     But, if you travel to Beijing, remember to bring your own things. Starting from June, some hotels in Beijing will no longer provide guests with these disposables.

    32     Many disposable things are made of plastic (塑料). People throw them away after only using them once.     33     Do you know, one Chinese person makes as much as 400kg of waste a year! Most of that waste comes from disposable things. In Beijing, people throw away about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 1,320 tons of plastic lunch bowls every year! Plastic can take between 100 and 400 years to break down. So the less plastic we throw out, the better.     34     Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place. Try to do these things in your daily life: Use cloth shopping bags. Not plastic ones. After using a plastic bag, wash it out and let it dry.     35     Do not use paper cups. At your school lining room, use your own bowl and chopsticks instead of disposable ones.

To protect our environment and our home, it is very necessary and important for us to save natural resources (自然资源).
