When I was in Junior high school, I was not good at sports because I was overweight. I was often laughed by some of my ________ in my P. E. class. That made me sad. Gradually, I came to believe that I did not have the ________ for sports.

It was a sunny summer day. I walked back home after school. When I stood in front of the door of my house, I was shocked to find out that my key was missing. That was my only key. I walked in the neighbourhood, expecting to find the lost key. But I couldn’t find it. I called my mum and she asked me to go to my aunt’s home. My aunt lived in another community which was far away from my home.

When I walked out of the neighbourhood, I noticed something shining on the window of the security booth (保安亭). It was my key. “Unbelievable!” I was quite surprised as I reached for the key.

“Is that yours, kid?” an old security guard asked. “Yes, it is mine. Who sent my key here?” The old man said, “I don’t know her name. A young lady picked it up and put it here.”

I was happy and deeply moved. To pick up a key from the ground and send it to the security booth was just a small thing, but this kind act meant so much to me. Though I have no chance to express my gratitude (感激) to the lady, I will pass on the kindness to others.

Life is like a journey. On the way, we have happiness and sadness. Sometimes it is full of regrets. It’s not difficult for anyone around you to tell his regrets. When we get older, we look back and wish that we had made better choices. How can we avoid future regrets?

Everybody wants to succeed, but how can we be successful? We must keep working hard to achieve our goals and it always begins first with baby steps. Why do we call them baby steps?

Baby steps are the first steps we take as an act of faith (信念). Faith is the most important in taking baby steps. We see others stepping out and we want to show our ability to walk by following them. As we grow, we continue our development by taking extra (额外的) baby steps. Sometimes we fall; sometimes we fail. After that, all steps become an act of faith; we just become more practiced. If you say to yourself “I don’t want to make a fool of myself” or “I’d better wait until I’m good at this”, you’ll probably never take the baby steps towards your goals and end up lying in self-pity.

As a culture, we focus on results. We think about every risk that must be taken to reach our goals. There are few people who are excellent performers of any tasks the first time they try them. They practice their skills and use their talents through baby steps before they are ready to prove (证明) themselves to the whole world. So take those baby steps to reach the goals.

As your steps become a walk, become more experienced, your baby steps become a walk, then a jump, and finally a sprint. That’s how our baby steps lead us through the marathon (马拉松) of life.

“I feel uneasy because I don’t know how the company is using my facial information or whether they will tell others,” Feng Yi, a tourism company worker, said about Zhengzhou’s subway smartphone app. When someone steals your personal information, you can change your bank card and password, but can you change your face when your facial information is stolen? It’s dangerous!

As facial recognition is used more and more in our daily lives, from college schoolyards and subways to street corners and smartphones, we must ask ourselves whether or not this new technology is worth the risk.
