It was a sunny summer day. I walked back home after school. When I stood in front of the door of my house, I was shocked to find out that my key was missing. That was my only key. What a terrible thing for me! My parents were away from home. They had gone to another city on business and they would be back in five days.
I walked in the neighbourhood, expecting to find the lost key. But I couldn’t find it. I called my mum and she asked me to go to my aunt’s home. My aunt lived in another community which was far away from my home.
When I walked out of the neighbourhood, I noticed something shining on the window of the security booth (保安亭). It was my key. “Unbelievable!” I was quite surprised as I reached for the key.
“Is that yours, kid?” an old security guard asked. “Yes, it is mine. Who sent my key here?” The old man said, “I don’t know her name. A young lady picked it up and put it here.”
I was happy and deeply moved. To pick up a key from the ground and send it to the security booth was just a small thing, but this kind act meant so much to me. Though I have no chance to express my gratitude (感激) to the lady, I will pass on the kindness to others.
54. Why did the writer think losing the key was a terrible thing?A.Because he had only one key. |
B.Because his parents went to his aunt’s home. |

D.He thinks it’s a useless thing to pick up the key. |
Life is like a journey. On the way, we have happiness and sadness. Sometimes it is full of regrets. It’s not difficult for anyone around you to tell his regrets. When we get older, we look back and wish that we had made better choices. How can we avoid future regrets?
Make better plans. If you start to do something, you’d better make a plan before doing it. The earlier, the better. You will know what comes first and what comes last. You’ll also know what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. If changes happen, you will have more time to deal with them. |
Live a more active life. You can go around more often. More outdoor activities can keep you relaxed and active. You also need to show your kindness to others. “Thank you” can bring a smile to someone’s face. Learn to say “sorry” and don’t be angry with others. |
Find the right friend. A friend can make your life colorful and he or she may break your life as well. So you need to think twice when you choose a friend. When you get into trouble, ask friends for help. A little help may get you good results. |
Never fear failure. Everybody fails, even the greatest person. We should not fear failure, because failure is not the end of the road. We must take failure as a chance to learn and improve ourselves. |
57. What should you do before you begin to do something?
A.Make a plan. | B.Live a more active life. |

C.Did the writer want us to live happily? |
D.Did the writer teach us how to avoid future regrets? |
Everybody wants to succeed, but how can we be successful? We must keep working hard to achieve our goals and it always begins first with baby steps. Why do we call them baby steps?
Baby steps are the first steps we take as an act of faith (信念). Faith is the most important in taking baby steps. We see others stepping out and we want to show our ability to walk by following them. As we grow, we continue our development by taking extra (额外的) baby steps. Sometimes we fall; sometimes we fail. After that, all steps become an act of faith; we just become more practiced. If you say to yourself “I don’t want to make a fool of myself” or “I’d better wait until I’m good at this”, you’ll probably never take the baby steps towards your goals and end up lying in self-pity.
As a culture, we focus on results. We think about every risk that must be taken to reach our goals. There are few people who are excellent performers of any tasks the first time they try them. They practice their skills and use their talents through baby steps before they are ready to prove (证明) themselves to the whole world. So take those baby steps to reach the goals.
As your steps become a walk, become more experienced, your baby steps become a walk, then a jump, and finally a sprint. That’s how our baby steps lead us through the marathon (马拉松) of life.
61. What does the writer mainly discuss in the passage?A.The cause of cultural differences. | B.The power of faith in our life. |

A.Long jump. | B.Sudden stop. |
C.Hard climb. | D.Fast run. |
A.Baby Steps | B.Life Goals |
C.Practice Makes Perfect | D.How to Succeed |

Forgot your password (密码) or your ID? Well, you’ll never forget your face. You can use your face as your ID. You can take the subway or the plane with just your face alone. This is how facial recognition (人脸识别) works. This technology is really quick and convenient, so most people like it.
In China, facial recognition systems have been used in many areas. In Zhengzhou, people can now get on the subway by using facial recognition technology. Students at Peking University can pass through the school gate by scanning (扫描) their faces. Facial recognition has also been used to catch criminals.
However, nowadays there are no laws to require how to use and collect the facial information, according to Zhao Zhanling, a law researcher at the China University of Political Science and Law. Some people don’t like this technology. They think it is dangerous in some cases. They are worried about the collection and use of the information by governments and companies. Why is it necessary to collect data (数据) about your face and what will the data be used for? These are some common questions about the facial recognition arguments.
“I feel uneasy because I don’t know how the company is using my facial information or whether they will tell others,” Feng Yi, a tourism company worker, said about Zhengzhou’s subway smartphone app. When someone steals your personal information, you can change your bank card and password, but can you change your face when your facial information is stolen? It’s dangerous!
As facial recognition is used more and more in our daily lives, from college schoolyards and subways to street corners and smartphones, we must ask ourselves whether or not this new technology is worth the risk.
