5-1 20:34 | Jack: I was walking home when I heard a loud sound coming from under a tree. I saw a dog sitting there looking sad. When I saw the bag of dog toys, I realized it was abandoned (遗弃). I thought it probably wasn’t a good idea to deal with it by myself, so I called the rescue home. |
5-1 20:32 | Anita: I was taking out the rubbish when I heard a sound. A tiny cat ran out. It looked thin, so I brought it home and gave it some water and food. I took it to the vet (兽医) who called the local cat rescue center. They didn’t have space for the cat and asked me if I could keep it until they could find it a new home. I took care of it for two weeks until it went to live with an elderly couple (夫妇). |
5-1 20:35 | Jane: I was volunteering at a beach in Costa Rica. One afternoon I noticed a turtle hadn’t moved for a long time. I got close to it quietly, trying not to frighten (使惊吓) it. I saw it had a ring of plastic (塑料) stuck around its neck and was having difficulty breathing. I lifted it gently into a box and went to the animal rescue center. The worker there cut the plastic off and treated its wound. At that time, I thought about what I should do to avoid (避免) this. Maybe I should start with the plastics in my daily life. |

A primary school headmaster Zhang Pengfei became famous on the Internet because of doing cool moving exercise with his students. 41-year-old Zhang Pengfei works at Xiguan Primary School in Linyi County, Shanxi Province. Every morning, he leads about 700 pupils in dancing “ghost shuffle routine” (鬼步舞) on the playground. The dance includes jazz steps with heel, toe and arm movements. If people join in the interesting activity, they’ll have a great time. The fun exercise certainly makes the students relaxed. The new 30-minute dancing has replaced the old broadcast (广播) exercise program which began in 1951. “I thought we needed a change because the students are losing interest in doing the old one,” Zhang told the reporter.
He saw a group of people doing the ghost shuffle routine in summer in 2018. Then he decided to learn the dance himself. In October, he showed it to all of his students. Soon even teachers and workers joined in the activity.
“Now the students don’t keep playing games on their phones all the time. I sometimes see them watching different dancing videos and learning new moves!” the headmaster said. “I think the dance is great for kids. The music is full of energy and it really brings people the happy feeling.”

I’m happy to hear that you and your family are visiting Hurghada this summer! It’s a wonderful place for a holiday. There’s a lot to do and many different places to go.
You can camp, stay in a hotel or in a youth hostel (青年旅舍). A youth hostel is very modern and comfortable, and much cheaper than a big hotel. You can find out information about them at the tourist (观光者) information center. You should go there as soon as you arrive in the city. It’s next to the police station in the middle of the new part of the city.
Hurghada has some beautiful beaches. You can go swimming. When it’s windy, you mustn’t miss windsurfing (帆板运动). It’s really exciting. What’s more, taking a boat trip to the islands around Hurghada isn’t a bad idea. You can also go fishing from a boat.
In Hurghada, you shouldn’t walk too much in the sun. It is best to visit places around early in the morning. Don’t forget to go to the market in the old part of the city. It’s a good place to buy souvenirs (纪念品) for your family or friends.
Have a great time! And I have been looking forward to our first meeting since we said goodbye last year. I really miss you and our teachers.
