US: Most US school buildings have fire doors. A fire escape has platforms (平台) with stairs and ladders at each floor of a building. They are usually made of steel and built outside of the building. People can get to the fire escape through a special fire-exit door or through a window. It is not a good idea to jump out of a window from higher than two floors. You may hurt yourself. |

I knocked into a stranger as he walked by me. “Oh, excuse me,” I said. He replied with a smile and said, “Please excuse me too. I wasn’t watching out for you.” We apologized and went our own ways.
Later that day, when I was cooking, my daughter was standing too close to me. When I turned to reach for some milk, I nearly knocked her over.
“Move out of the way!” I shouted.
She walked away sadly. But I didn’t feel like I had to apologize to her.
While I was in bed that evening, my husband said to me, “While dealing with a stranger, you were polite, but with a daughter you love, you were unkind. Your daughter brought you some flowers that she picked herself this afternoon. You’ll find them in the kitchen by the door. Have you seen the tears in her eyes?”
I quietly went and knelt (跪) down by my daughter’s bed.
“Honey, I am so sorry,” I said. “Are these the flowers you picked for me?”
She said, “I found them by the tree. I picked them because they’re pretty like you. I knew you’d like them, especially the blue ones.”
I tearfully replied, “Sweetie, I’m really sorry for the way I acted today. I shouldn’t have shouted at you.”
“It’s okay. I love you anyway,” she said as she kissed me on my cheek.

Why should you work hard and feel sore (酸痛的) the next day? Wouldn’t it be better to forget sports and only pay attention to your lessons? In fact, there are a lot of reasons to play sports.
First of all, sports help you stay in a good condition because they are a great way to exercise. When you exercise, your body makes endorphins (安多芬) which give you more energy and make you feel happier.
Also, sports teach young people how to communicate and work as a team. They teach young people to respect (尊重) their coaches, teammates and players from the other team. Many reports say that sports help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays sports, he or she may have fewer problems. This is because sports teach people about rules. They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.
Finally, sports make people leave their houses. These days, a lot of people spend too much time watching television and playing video games. When you play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things are important.

As Earth’s neighbor, Mars (火星) has a similar environment to Earth. For years, humans are studying the Red Planet and hope to live on it one day. On July 23, 2020, China launched (发射) its first Mars probe (探测器). It is called Tianwen-1. The name comes from the poem Tianwen.
Qu Yuan, a famous poet of the Warring States Period wrote it. The probe landed on the surface (表面) of Mars on May 15, 2021. China is the second country in the world to make it. It was a great success.
A probe has to fly a very long way before landing on Mars, and the lander (着陆器) has to land by itself. “Each step had only one chance. If there was any mistake, the landing would fail.” Geng Yan, an official from the China National Space Administration (CNSA) said.
The Mars probe has three parts—the orbiter, the lander and the rover (火星车). Within a week after the landing, the Mars rover, Zhurong, will begin working. Zhurong is named after the god of fire in ancient Chinese stories. It is the sixth rover on Mars, following five others launched by the United States. If everything goes well, Zhurong will work for at least three months and carry out studies on Mars like taking pictures and videos of Mars, finding out if there is any water or ice under the surface of Mars and checking the temperature or weather on it.

The hardest thing in the world is saying yes to the world. Do you say yes to the world? Most of us are used to saying no to the things we don’t like and yes to the things we like, and yet, everything we face is our life. We won’t say yes to the things we do not like, because we can’t accept them in heart.
When we say yes to the world, we begin to believe that whatever our situation is, we can work with it. We express belief (信念) in ourselves and the world. We also express a willingness to learn from whatever happens to us, and we won’t run or hide when we don’t like what we see. So in one word, saying yes is really good for our life.
The question we might ask ourselves is what it will take to get to the point of saying yes. For some of us, when facing something we can’t run away from or refuse, we cannot say no but have to say yes. For others, they might make a decision to say yes to life no matter what happens to them.
Saying yes to life might be difficult at first, and even painful at times, but if we continue to say yes to life, it will be less difficult in the end. And we will find the joy of being in a positive (积极的) talk to the world with a very strong word “yes”. We should accept everything life puts in front of us.
