You can also go shopping to buy things from all over the world. But there are serious problems in big cities, too. The cost of living is high, and there are too many people in some places.

Every year many people move to the cities because there are more chances （机会） to find jobs, to study at good schools and receive good medical care （医疗保健）.But sometimes these people can’t find jobs or good places to live in .Also, too many people in a small place make it hard to keep the cities safe and clean.

Some people enjoy staying in big cities, but others do not. Before people move to a big city, they should think about the problems of staying there.

At this moment in different places of the world people are doing different things. In Beijing itˈs early morning. People are sleeping. In London people are leaving work to go home. They are waiting for buses or running for trains. Some people are driving their cars. Some are having afternoon tea at home or walking to the pubs(酒吧) to have a drink. In Moscow(莫斯科) itˈs evening and people are having supper at home or in restaurants. Some are going to watch a ballet(芭蕾舞). Some are drinking in the pubs. In Los Angeles(洛杉矶) itˈs morning. People are working in their offices. Children are starting their lessons. New York is midday now. People arenˈt working but having lunch. They are eating hamburgers or hot dogs and drinking coffee or Coke. Some people are seeing friends or shopping

Life is important to all of us. So we must respect our lives. When you want to run across the street to catch the bus, stop to think about it. If you do, you’ll have to pay a fine (罚款) or get hurt.

Traffic accidents killed more than 104,000 people in China last year. Chinese cities have more cars than ever. Drivers and pedestrians (行人) must work together to make the streets safer.

New traffic laws(法律) say that if people cross the street when the light is red, they can be fined as much as 50 yuan. The law has new rules for drivers and pedestrians. Drivers have to slow down when they are close to crosswalks. If people are in a crosswalk, cars must stop to let them walk.

There are rules for bus drivers, too. If bus drivers smoke, drink or make phone calls while driving, they can be fined. Buses that carry too many people are also against the law.

Pedestrians will have to walk more safely under the new law. They must cross streets at crosswalks. Also, they shouldn’t climb over the fences (栅栏) along streets.

Do you ride a bike to school? It’s not a good idea to carry classmates on the back. You could be fined 50 yuan. And stay in the bike lane (车道) when you’re riding. The big roads are for cars and buses.

Do you like to ride your uncle’s motorbike? When you put on your helmet (头盔), ask him to put one on, too. “People on motorbikes must wear helmets”, the new law says. If they don’t, they’ll have to pay 200 yuan. When you ride in cars, don’t forget to put on your seat belt, even if you’re going for a short taxi ride. It could save your life.

If you see a hit-and-run (肇事逃逸), tell the police. They may give you a reward (奖赏).And don’t be afraid to help people to the hospital if they are hurt in an accident. Don’t worry about money. The new law says that doctors must take care of them even if they can’t pay right away.

I live in a nice new building in Beijing. It is very tall. It has eighteen floors. There are about eighty families in the building. That is to say (也就是说), about two hundred and forty people live in the building.

My home is on the twelfth (第十二) floor. We have two bedrooms and a living room. They are big and clean. There are a lot of big trees and beautiful flowers around our building. I like looking out of the window in my room. I can see cars and buses running in the street. I can see people walking in the street, too. They look so small! I can also see a lot of tall buildings. How beautiful Beijing is! I am happy to live in this nice, new and tall building.
