It’s important for everyone to have a good neighbour. In China, there is a saying that a distant relative is not as good as a near neighbour (远亲不如近邻). I think it is right ___ from my experience (经历), I think it’s ___ for each one to have a good neighbour. First, a good neighbour is a good friend. One winter day when our family move to a new house, our neighbourhood help us to ___ some furniture (家具) into our house and tell us ____ this neighbourhood. They invite all the members of ___ family to their home and have a hot drink. They made us ___ comfortable here. Next, a good neighbour is a good relative. When we travel, our neighbours ___ take care of our house and keep the letters for us. When they ___ , we also help them as they do. In the new neighbourhood, we always ___ each other. Maura watches a car stop at the house next door. Some new neighbours come. Nobody lives in it for months, and Maura hopes a girl of her age will move in.

“Mom, they’re here!” she says.

“Let’s go over to say hello and welcome them,” Mom says. Maura looks hopefully when the car doors open. But when she sees the old couple (夫妻) come out, she is disappointed(失望).

“I’ll welcome the new neighbours. I’d like it if you come, too.”

Maura doesn’t feel like it, but she doesn’t have anything better to do.

When they walk to the next door, a young girl comes out of the car.

Maura smiles. The girl seems to be as old as Maura. “Hi. I’m Maura. Will you live here?”

“No. My grandparents do,” the girl turns around when her grandparents come here. “Meet Charles and Patricia Moore. Oh, and I’m Emily.”

Maura wants to cry for the second time today. She hopes Emily also lives here. “Hi,” she says,trying to be polite(礼貌).

“Emily is with us every weekend,”Patricia says, looking at Maura. “It looks like you two are the same age. Maybe you can show her around.”

“Sure,” Maura says happily.

“Great!” Emily says. When they walk around, Emily says, “You will love my grandparents. They can tell really great stories.”

Maura is very glad because she gets a new friend and a nice old couple that can tell good stories.

“They’ll be great neighbours,” Maura thinks.
