Hi, I’m Mike. I work as a writer for GROWING UP. I hope I can help you with your problems.
Q Dear Mike,
I’m not very good at giving advice to other people. A friend of mine recently bought some Nike trainers online, but they were fake (假的). Everyone except him can tell that they’re fake. I don't know how to bring this up with him. Can you give me some advice?
– xxximaaa
A Dear xxximaaa,
A long time ago, a friend of mine told me what he liked most about me. It was that I always ‘kept it real’. Do you know the meaning of it? It means being honest and open, even when your thought is unpopular.
I suggest that you keep it real with your friend. If no one else is brave enough to tell him about his shoes, then maybe you should be the one to do it. You don’t have to do it in a mean (刻薄的) way. Just go to your friend secretly and bring it up. Your friend will thank you because you are honest.
On the other hand, who really cares if the shoes are fake? Is it really that big of a deal? Maybe you should just forget about it. If other people are making fun of him for having fake shoes, they really have a problem.
– Mike
If you have problems when growing up, I recommend you GROWING UP!

25. How many suggestions does Mike give to xxximaaa?
A.One.B.Two.C.Three.D.None.
26. What does Mike think is a real problem?

A.English novelB.learning guide
C.scientific bookD.teenage magazine

Imagine sailing to over twenty different ports(港口)around the world while you are studying subjects you love! Impossible? Well, that is what the students in Class Afloat do.
Class Afloat is a Canadian school on a tall ship! The ship is sixty-four metres long and nine metres wide and it can take up to sixty students. The classrooms are well-equipped(设备精良)and comfortable and there's even a library! There is no need to know anything about sailing-students can learn on the ship.

There are secondary school students-first year university students and students who are doing a gap year(休学年)programme.

Because the school is a ship, you can do some exciting courses-for example, Marine Biology(studying the animals and plants in the sea) and History or Geography courses about the places you visit. Students also learn all about sailing! All the classes are in English, so you must have a good level of English.
Students don't just study. They must also clean, cook and sail the ship, in their free time, students can rest, read or watch a film. In the evenings, they relax with friends, have club meetings and sometimes they have a karaoke night.
Every sixteen to twenty days, the ship stops in a port for three to six days. In port there're lots to do-home stays, camping trips, museum tours, cultural events, hiking, etc. They also go snorkeling and do other water sports. Parents can meet up with the students in one port every term.
Students also take part in two volunteer programmes in Senegal(塞内加尔)and the Dominican Republic(多明尼加共和国). They help local families in different ways, for example, with basic health matters or starting a business. Students learn how, with just a little money and time, they can make changes that improve other people's lives.
31. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.Students don't have to know how to sail before they join the ship.

Detective fiction is popular in many countries. There are two kinds: stories in which private detectives solve a crime, usually a murder; and stories in which a police detective solve a crime. Both kinds of detective story are equally popular.

The first private detective---PI for private investigator in the USA---was probably Arson Lupin, a Frenchman. However, stories about this detective are not read nowadays. For most people the first, and perhaps the greatest, private detective, was the Englishman, Sherlock Holmes, a character created by the author Sir Author Conan Doyle. All the Sherlock Holmes stories have been translated into most languages. The best known is the Hound of the Baskervilles.

The first police detective was probably Sergeant Cuff who solves the crime in the Moonstone, one of the first detective novels in English. The author, Wilkie Collins, was a close friend of Charles Dickens, the best English novelists of all the time.

Crime fiction has been as popular in the USA as in the UK, and some of the most famous American writers have written detective fiction. The most highly regarded is probably Raymond Chandler whose PI, Phillip Marlowe, is the archetype (典型的) private detective. Also popular, although not so well-written, are the Perry Mason novels by Erle Stanley Gardner.

After Conan Doyle, the most widely read private detective novelist is the English novelist Agatha Christie. She created two unforgettable characters--- Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. Agatha Christie’s have also been translated into most languages.

Detective fiction is as popular today as it has ever been, probably because many novels have been adapted for television which introduced them to many people who do not usually read new detective crime fiction.

34. Which of the following is a detective story writer?
A.Hercule PoirotB.Perry MasonC.Erle Stanley GardenerD.Sergeant Cuff
35. What happened to many detective stories?
A.They have been long forgotten.B.They have been translated into English.
C.Nowadays they are the least popular readings.D.They have been popular because of TV programmes.
36. What have Arthur Conan Doyle, Raymond Chandler and Agatha Christie in common?
A.They all wrote stories about English detectives.B.They all wrote stories about private detectives.
C.They all wrote stories about police detectives.D.They all wrote stories about American detectives.
37. Which of the following does the writer imply (暗示)?
A.Wilkie Collins lived at the same time as Charles Dickens.
B.Arson Lupin is a popular character on television nowadays.
C.Private detective stories are better reviewed than police detective stories.
D.A successful writer of detective stories has to write private detective stories.

五、任务型阅读 添加题型下试题

任务型阅读-阅读填表(约410词) | 较难(0.4)
先通过读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容,在文章后表格的空格内填入一个最恰当的单词。

Since the beginning of human evolution(演变,进化), men have migrated(迁移) across continents(洲) in search of food, shelter, safety, and comfortable weather. People still move for these reasons, but new reasons for human migration are arising, such as job relocation(重新安置) and overpopulation.

Three million migrants(移民) are moving from poor countries to wealthier ones each year, and increasingly, their destination(目的地) is a neighboring country in developing parts of the world. People are moving within the developing world for the same reasons as they migrate to wealthier nations. People from poor countries are going to less poor countries, getting away from wars and conflicts. They are also leading to population pressures because some countries are now crowded with people, and they often have high population growth. Those people need to go somewhere else.

There are three main reasons why people move. The basic kinds and percentages are as follows, according to the Current Population Surveys(CPS):

Family-related reasons account for 26.3%, including changes in marriage and other family reasons; work-related reasons 16.2%, including job transfer, retirement, and other job-related reasons; housing-related reasons 51.6%, including new and better houses, better neighborhood, cheaper housing and other housing reasons; the remaining 5.9% of other reasons are attending college, the change of climate and health reasons.

Americans have been migrating south and west for many years in search of better job opportunities and warmer climates. They have also been moving to places a little far from cities, in search of bigger yards and houses, lower crime rates and better schools. In 1950, nearly a fifth of the population lived in the nation’s 20 largest cities. In 2006, it was about one in ten. That’s why many American people say, “Big Cities Shrink as People Move South, West.” They like to live in the countryside.

Between March 2005 and March 2007, 73.4 million Americans moved. Fifty-six percent of these moves were within the same country. Some families even went abroad.
