A few years ago, Maxine Bedat— who is now in her early 30s —looked in her closet. It was full of clothes, but she had nothing to wear. And that was because it was a closet full of fast fashion that was falling apart.
"Fast fashion" means clothes that are inexpensive but look like the latest designs from top fashion houses. Well-known fast fashion stores include H&M, Forever 21, Zara and Topshop.
One reason for the success of fast fashion is social media. A report found that Millennials— people born in the 1980s and 90s—want to wear different types of clothes in the photos they post on social websites. As a result, many businesses that offer trendy, low-cost clothes are growing. But some Millenmials are not happy with the rise of fast fashion.
Maxine Bedat, the woman with the closet full of clothes but nothing to wear, was tired of always shopping for what was in style. Instead, she wanted to buy fewer clothes that she could wear over and over. Other people wanted the same thing, she says. So Ms. Bedat and a business partner, Soraya Darabi, started a "slow fashion" clothing company called Zady.
"Slow fashion" means clothes that last a long time. They are often classic colors and shapes, and are made from natural materials that are biodegradable (生物降解的) over time.
The terms"fast fashion" and "slow fashion" are similar to "fast food" and"slow food". Like slow food, slow fashion also aims to use sources that are good for the environment and workers. Zady aims to tell shoppers where their clothes come from, where they go, and how they influence the world.
28. What can we know about fast fashion?A.It refers to inexpensive but higher-quality clothes. |
B.It is the latest design from top fashion houses. |
C.It can fall apart easily and quickly. |
D.It's highly possible for all the Millenials to like the changeable but cheap clothes. |
A.H&M. | B.Forever 21. | C.Topshop. | D.Zady. |
A.giving examples | B.making comparisons (对比) | C.offering explanations (说明) | D.providing statistics (数据) |

As I enjoyed the soft sunshine in the pool, my 8-year-old daughter swam up behind me.
"Guess who, Mommy?" she said.
"No idea. Who is this mystery (神秘的) person?" I joked.
The pair of us talked and laughed together for the rest of the afternoon.
"Remember this," I told myself. "You are happy, right here, right now."
Fast forward a few months, and my thoughts sounded different.
"Just keep going," I would think, or, "How many sleeps until the weekend?"
I didn't like what I was like—someone sleepwalking (梦游) through the week, running on coffee and too tired at night to do anything but watch TV. I thought the Christmas break would recognize (使再次充满活力) me, making me ready to take on another year of early starts. But I had to listen to my heart.
My patient husband and friends had listened to me going over the decision for six months, but the time for talking was over. It was time to make my choice: My daughter needed me and I needed her.
When she was really young, I loved the freedom of going to work as the sun was rising, happy that my family was still sound asleep. Then later, my daughter would set her alarm (闹钟) so she could wake up early with me to chat in the dark together.
The morning I planned to tell everyone I was quitting (放弃) my job, we sat together on the couch. I told her how nervous I was about sharing my news in a few hours' time. Stroking (抚摸) her hair, I asked my daughter what she thought about my decision. "We'll be so much happier, Mommy," she said.
Life is never simply a choice between job and family. Ask anyone, and family always comes first.
Besides, I'm not disappearing— there are plenty of projects to keep me fulfilled.
Who knows what's ahead?
Nobody knows what the future holds, but when it comes to my own, I can make sure it will be filled with long afternoons in the pool with my daughter.
34. What's the writer's main propose in writing the first five paragraphs?A.To show how lovely her daughter is. |

We all dream about things that we would like to do and things we hope to get in the future. But are everybody's dreams the same? Here are some of the findings of a survey about hopes and dreams, in which thousands of students across China took part.
What are the hopes of teenagers(青少年)? We received several different answers to the question: what would you like to do after you finish your education? It seems that some students would like to start work as soon as they can, so that they can help offer their parents better lives. Other students hope to go on studying after they finish school and to go to university. Although money is important, many teenagers want to do jobs they like.
What are the dreams of teenagers? Teenagers have all kinds of dreams. Some are more realistic(现实的) than others. For example, many students would like to be volunteers if Beijing could hold the World Cup. And many students dream of having a trip to every corner of the world one day.
According to the survey, less realistic dreams are also common, but many students reported that they were willing to work hard to make their dreams come true. Quite a few dreamed of becoming famous, perhaps famous sports people or singers. Some students would like to go on exciting trips. One student would love to sail across the Pacific Ocean. And then there are dreams that there is no possibility for students to realize. Three students would like to be able to fly.
It is clear from the survey that teenagers have similar hopes. It seems that most students hope to have a good education and find a good job. On the other hand, students dream of very different things: good things, and even crazy things. It is very important to dream, so hold on your dreams. One day they may just be realized.
