Tom and Jack were best friends. One day, they made a journey. They had a fight on the way. Tom became very______and hit Jack on the back. Jack said nothing. He just wrote in the sand, “Today my best friend hit me on my back.”

They kept on walking until they found a______,and they decided to have a rest beside it and get some water. Suddenly, Jack______the river. Tom saved him at once. After Jack was better, he carved(刻)on a______,“Today my best friend saved my life.”

Last Friday, I agreed to meet some friends at 6: 00 p. m. in a coffee shop. The weather was sunny, so I decided to walk there. I arrived ten minutes early. I ordered a cup of coffee and sat watching people. There were some boys playing football on the street, and a small boy was running after the ball as it rolled (滚)across the road.

Suddenly, there came a car. It was going very fast. When the driver saw the boy in his way, he braked(刹车)hard. But it was too late. The small boy was lying on the street without moving. To everyone’s surprise, the car didn’t stop. It drove away quickly.

People ran to the boy. There was a cut on the boy’s head and he lost a lot of blood. The coffee shop owner telephoned the police. Soon an ambulance arrived and took the boy to the hospital.

At 6:30 p.m., the police arrived and started questioning people. About half an hour later, they asked me to go to the police station because I saw everything. I gave them all the information I knew because I really wanted them to catch the driver. I didn’t leave the police station until 8: 00 p.m. After that I went home because I didn’t feel like talking to anyone.

The next day, the boy’s parents called me to say thanks. They also told me their boy was fine and the driver was in the police station now.

My mom loves to feed birds. She puts a bird feeder in the big tree in front of our house. Then, she waits for the birds to come. She enjoys watching all the birds coming to eat there.

There was once a problem, though. Every year two squirrels(松鼠) came and stole(偷) all the bird food. It really frustrated my mom. “Why do they think they can steal all the bird food?” she said. “If I wanted to feed them, I would set up a squirrel feeder.”

Over the years, Mom has tried every way in the book to keep the squirrels away. But squirrels have a lot of talent. Mom once put up a fence(栅栏). But the squirrels just found a way to jump over it. It seemed mom wouldn’t win.

Mom didn’t give up easily though. Two weeks ago, she started to watch some TV shows about animals. And she found a new way from the shows successfully. This weekend, Mom caught the two squirrels with a trap(捕捉器).She drove them outside of the city and let them go free.

Now, only birds come to Mom’s bird feeder. She is happy. The birds are happy. And of course, the two squirrels are happy living in the countryside where there is always lots of food to eat. I think everyone wins.

Once there was a piano player in a bar(酒吧).People came just to hear him play. But one night, a lady asked him to sing a song．

“I don’t sing,” said the man．

But the lady told the waiter, “I’m tired of listening to the piano. I want the player to sing!”

The waiter shouted across the room, “Hey, friend! If you want to get paid, sing a song!” So he did. He had never sung in public before. Now he was singing for the first time! Nobody had ever heard the song Mona Lisa sung so beautifully!

He didn’t know that he could sing so well! He may have lived the rest of his life as a no-name piano player in a no-name bar. But once he found, by accident(偶然地), that he could sing well, he went on working hard and became one of the best-known singers in the US. His name was Nat King Cole．

You have skills and abilities, too. You may not feel that your talent is great, but it may be better than you think. If you work hard , most skills can be improved. Besides, you may have no success at all if you just sit on your talent．

Doing the broadcast calisthenics(广播体操)during breaks in the morning is almost a rule in Chinese schools.    31    He led his students to do the shuffle dance(鬼步舞) during school breaks.

Every morning, the 41-year-old headmaster Zhang Pengfei danced with about 700 pupils on the playground.    32    “ I thought we needed a change because the students have been losing interest in doing the broadcast calisthenics,” Zhang said.

Last summer, the headmaster met a group of people who were doing the shuffle dance at a public square.    33    Later he realized that the dance would be great for kids, because the music was full of energy(活力) and it really made people happy. Last October. he made it a school activity during the morning breaks.    34    “I sometimes ask some students to watch different dance videos and learn new moves!” said the proud(骄傲的) headmaster.
