I went out to breakfast this morning to meet a friend. It was lovely, but what wasn’t so lovely was the lady who took our _______.

She spoke in a way that was _______ unhappy, certainty not friendly and sort of rude. Working in hospitality(服务行业) myself, I _______ it.

When it was my turn to come close to her and order, thought to myself, “What can I do here to make her happy, to appreciate her, to make her smile?”

I had nothing.

Surely there must be _______ I could sincerely compliment (称赞)her on Then there it was, and I knew instantly(=at once)

It was her voice. She had the most unbelievably well spoken and clear voice, It was so good. And that was what I would _______ her for.

So after she took my order and gave me the same unfriendly attitude, I told her. I said: “I hope you don't mind me saying so, but you have the most _______ voice. It’s so clear, well spoken and sounds so professional.”

I told her how she honestly hid one of those voices that would be _______ for voice overs(配音), announcements or even radio.

Her face lit up, she smiled (the first time I had seen her do so), and as I let and walked away. Notice her whole attitude change. The customer behind me received a totally different kind of _______, a better one. And it was all because of what I did. Something so _______.

There was a time when this sort of thing would have embarrassed (使窘迫) me, or I'd have been way too shy and hard to say such a thing. Not now. Now I __________.

Why?

Because I have the power The power to completely change someone's day by something as simple as a few kind words.

And you have this power too We all do.

Who wants to eat food that is thrown away as waste? Believe it or not, that’s exactly what world leaders did at a lunch held by the United Nations in 2015.

During the meal, the world leaders enjoyed dishes like salads and burgers made with thrown-away vegetables and fruits. Chef Dan Barber, who helped create the meal, hoped that the experience would make the leaders pay more attention to the issue of food waste.

It is a huge problem. One out of nine people on Earth does not get enough food. Yet every year over one third of the food produced worldwide goes to waste!

Why is so much food wasted? Firstly, food is often thrown away before it reaches customers because too much of it is produced, or because it is not kept properly in farms. Secondly, shops and supermarkets usually throw away unsold food. Finally, customers often buy more food than they need, so a lot of uneaten food is wasted.

How can you waste less food? When eating out, you may ask for less food and take home what is left. Visit fast food restaurants less often, since they are usually more wasteful. Encourage your favorite restaurants to give unsold food to food banks.

You can also waste less food at home. Use smaller rice bowls so that you serve less rice. Encourage family members to use unfinished rice to make rice puddings. Tell family members to make a shopping list and buy only what is on the list when shopping for food.

Food waste is a growing problem and we, either farmers or food sellers or customers, must take this problem more seriously and do what we can to help.

Beggars are often seen sitting by the side of a street with heads bowed as people pass by. Some ask people passing by for a small amount of money and some just sit and wait to be given money.

To solve the problem, another giving plan has been suggested. Ten blue money boxes will be placed in busy places such as the market and the railway station. It aims to encourage people not to give money directly to beggars but instead to give generously to local homeless people.

Supporters of this plan think it will be a useful way to solve the beggars' alcohol and drug problems (酗酒和吸毒). But the police are against the plan arguing that beggars who do not receive cash may turn to criminality! (犯罪) to fed their addictions(瘾). Most of the beggars dislike the plan because they think they will not get enough money from the boxes for their showers, food and clothes.

Begging is a big social problem both in developing and developed countries. Government must play a big role in solving this problem. Training beggars to work and helping them to find fit jobs is cone option. This is especially true for developing countries because there are many low -skill jobs there.

The general community should also be educated to see beggars not as dirty and dangerous, but as people who need understanding and help.
