Before my visit to the United States during summer vacation, all that I knew about the United States was that it is a large and developed country.
At Yellowstone National Park, different signs were everywhere. "Don't feed the animals," "Don't play with wild animals," "Don't catch the fish," etc.
Another kind of special sign is the epitaphs(墓志铭)on tombstones(墓碑).
A.These signs really show us the American people's respect for life and nature. |
B.And they try to protect all kinds of living creatures. |
C.But many signs attracted me most during the journey. |

Shaking hands seems simple, but there are some important things to remember. When you shake hands, you must look into the other person’s eyes the whole time you’re shaking hands.
Shake hands strongly. If you give a weak handshake, the other person might think that you’re not kind. He might also feel that you don’t like him or you don’t want to touch him. Shake hands with men and women the same way. If you shake hands with a very old person or a small child, be careful not to hurt them.
Some people don’t know how long to keep shaking. The most common handshake should have three shakes and then you should let go. Don’t worry if Americans shake hands a little longer.
Your handshake is like your smile. It’s special to you. You need to find a comfortable strong handshake that shows what you are like. Because the handshake allows people to touch, the hand should be warm, clean and dry.
●Warm: Put your hands into your pockets before you shake hands. This will warm them.
●Clean: If you know you’re going to meet someone, wash your hands so they’ll be clean.
●Dry: Everyone gets nervous and your hands may get wet. It isn’t a good feeling for the other person. Again, put your hands into your pockets. This will dry them.

Every year, turkey farmers present turkeys to the US president. But instead of eating this turkey, the president gives it a “Pardon”. The turkey is flown to Florida for a thanksgiving Parade (游行). Then it lives on the farm for the rest of its life.
Turkeys come from America and have been part of American culture for centuries.Benjamin Franklin even wanted the turkey to be America’s national bird.
Turkeys that are kept on farms are large, awkward birds that cannot fly. But wild turkeys are quite fast. They can fly at speed up to 88 kilometers per hour. They can also run at 40 kilometers per hour.
Turkeys don’t have ears. They hear by using the growth of beaks (尖喙). But their hearing is about five times better than human hearing.
Turkeys are such interesting birds. No wonder Benjamin Franklin wanted them to be American national birds.
