阅读下面短文,在表格内的空白处填入合适的答案(每空格限填一词)

It seems that a family just isn’t complete (完整的) without a pet. But if pets aren’t suitable to a family’s lifestyle or environment, they can quickly lead to problems such as stress or arguments (争执). To save yourself and your family such problems, treat this decision seriously.

When choosing a pet, people must consider the family’s health. Many people are allergic (过敏的) to cats and dogs. Perhaps a dog or cat with short hair will be fine. And a dog might not be the best choice for a child who is naughty (顽皮的) because the dog might bite him or her. Some people can also have problems with certain pets. It’s a good idea to spend a little time with the pet around each member of the family before making your decision.

Consider the quality of life of the pet, too. If a pet is used to having space to run around, it can quickly develop psychological (心理的) problems when it is kept in a small flat all day. If pets are allowed to run about in areas with lots of traffic, they can meet an early end. Cats shouldn’t be brought into homes that already have large dogs because they won’t be able to get along well with each other.

The decision as to what kind of pet to choose is very important. If you find the right one to suit (适合) everyone in the family and their lifestyle, then it’s time to choose one. Remember that your decision is important because it can have effects that last for many years.

How much do you know about haze? Haze can also be called smog. The word smog is from the words “smoke” and “fog”. It first appeared in the early 20th century. It is a kind of air pollution caused mainly by cars and factories.

Smog will do great harm (危害) to your health, especially lungs (肺). It can make you cough and cause skin or eye problems. It seems that we can do nothing to stop it, but only wait until the wind blows all the smoke away. However, there are some easy way to stop it from hurting you on hazy days.

Don’t exercise in the open. Exercising in the open makes you breathe (呼吸) deeply and you will take in particles (颗粒物) deep into your lungs.

Stay indoors and keep the air clean. You can just stay in your room and close your doors and windows. Use air purifiers (空气净化器) if necessary to keep the air in your room clean.

Wear a mask. Paper and cotton masks cannot help you in the haze weather, but some special masks can keep you from breathing in particles in the air.

Change your diet. Scientists find that Vitamin A, C or E can greatly help protect your eyes, nose and lungs. So eat more green vegetables and fresh fruit every day. What’s more, do not eat food with too much fat. It is bad for your lungs.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了钱的历史。
【推荐2】阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

Today, our currency (货币) is a mixture of metal coins and paper money, but it wasn’t always that way. Before metal coins and paper bills existed (存在), people used a lot of unusual things to buy what they needed. In one part of the world, for example, people used the sharks’ teeth for money, while in another place, rare seashells were money.

There are many fantastic facts about the history of money. Bright feathers were the lightest money used by people on a Pacific island. Stones were the heaviest money and some weighed over 500 pounds. Greece used a lot of metal coins which were smaller than apple seeds. They were the smallest money ever used.

No one knows for sure when people started using metal coins for money. Scientists have found coins dating from 600 BC, so we know they have been around for a long time. At first people used the precious metals, such as gold and silver to make coins. In the 1200s, people in China used iron (铁) coins for their currency. These coins weren’t worth very much, so people had to use a lot of them to make their purchases (购买物). Because iron coins were inconvenient, the government started printing paper bills. People took these bills to banks and traded them in for coins. This is the first example we have of paper money.

Today, most countries use a mixture of coins and paper bills for their currency. In some countries, the paper bills are all the same size and color. In many others, the bills come in various sizes and colors. This makes it easier for people to tell the value of their money.

In 2002, twelve European countries started using a completely new currency. It’s called the euro. Many Europeans miss their old currencies, but now it is easier to move money from one country to another.
