“Oh, boys, don’t throw stones at the poor bird,” said an old grey-headed man.
“Sir,” said a little one,”she makes such a loud noise that we can’t bear her.”
“I am afraid the stone will rebound (反弹) and hurt you as long as you live!”
“Rebound! We don’t understand you, sir!”
“Well, I will tell you a true story.”
“Fifty years ago, I liked throwing stones because I had no other boy to play with and I became very skillful. One day I went to work for an old couple who were very friendly to everybody, even to the birds. And the birds seemed to love the old couple, too. For seven years a bird had come and built her nest (鸟巢) in the same place. She and her mate had just returned on the day I went to work and the old couple welcomed them happily. During the day, I thought I would try my skill upon her. Suddenly the bird flew to a tree near me. I found a nice stone, and I threw it with my best skill. It hit the bird on the head and she dropped dead!
“I was sorry the moment I saw her fall off the tree. But it was too late. All day long her mate flew about, and chirped (发啁啾声) so sadly that he made my heart ache.. I said nothing to the old couple but one of their grandchildren told them about it. Though the old couple never said a word to me, I knew that they were very sad. I could never look them in the eye and tell them how sorry I was. They have been dead for many, many years, and so has the poor bird. But don’t you see how that stone rebounded, and hit me? For fifty years I have still remembered it though I have never spoken of it before. But if what I have told you will stop you, I will be happy.”
The boys at once dropped the stones in their hands and the bird had no more trouble from them.

It’s the first time I write to you, my children. First, let me tell you more about my family. Dear humans, I have many other children. Some of them fly in the sky; some of them swim in the water; some live in ice-covered places; some run in the grasslands.
Some of them are very small; some of them are as big as cars, such as elephants.
They might be very close to you, or even live in your house. But there are others that you may never have the chance to meet. You bring them home to be your friends and helpers. You put them in zoos. You kill them for their meat, even for fun. They bring you money and happiness, but also bring you diseases and death.
I hope you can remember that wild animals are not your food, clothes or furniture. They are not killers, either. They are, in fact, your brothers and sisters. You should grow up together.
Humans, you are smart and hardworking. You can decide where you go, as well as where I go. But you are not kind to me. You change my weather, my lands, my forests, my rivers…You ask so much of me, more than what I can give you. I’m worried that one day you will be lonely.
So, grow up, humans. I hope you and al the wildlife can live happily in my arms.
Yours
Mother Earth

【推荐2】Castle Dale is a small town in central Utah. My grandpa's farm is a few miles to the north. I grew up there. Milking a cow, feeding the chickens and cutting firewood were daily routines. Grandpa had me carrying a broom to do snow cleaning when it was actually taller than I was. This was the work kids like me learned to do at a young age.
I was tall, very tall at a really young age. My unusual height caused people to look, ask questions, laugh, tease, and sometimes even challenge me to fight. I was teased cruelly as a kid. It wasn't fair, I knew, but that was just the way it was. Luckily, I was taught at a very young age a very important lesson. I am different and that's Okay—I'm unique and I matter. No one could ever take that away from me. I knew this then, and I know this now. That alone helped me through the frustrations and heartaches of normal life.
When I was in junior high school, I realized something else that helped me cope. Most teasing came from one of two places—people who were either jealous or ignorant. I couldn`t change the way they were, but I could change the way I felt. I was not going to feel bad because of their ignorance or jealousy. It wasn't worth it. Realizing this didn't stop them, or change the fact that these comments hurt. It did, however, give me a way to understand these people and deal with their treatment in a way that was okay for me.
These things still happen today. It will probably happen the rest of my life. I will always be 7 feet, 6 inches(2.29 meters)tall. I wouldn't change that for anything. People will always look because it is not every day that you see someone that tall. I learned that at a young age and I now try to teach my own children that they are unique and they matter. That is the message I give to you. Regardless of your race, religion, background, or circumstances…Being different is okay.
