Imagine that you are driving down a road late at night. You look to the side of the road and find that there is a car accident. There are people in the car, and they, are probably hurt. What would you do in that situation? Would you ignore (忽视) the people and keep driving? Or would you stop your car and try to help them?
In the past, most people didn’t think of it as a problem. They would stop to help the injured without thinking twice. But people think differently now. Lots of people don’t want to give help. One of the reasons is that sometimes they might hurt the people they are trying to save, and the injured might sue (控告) them. Sometimes, the people who try to help have to pay lots of money just for doing good to others. Many people do not want to get sued for being nice. So they ignore others in need of help.
Because so many people are afraid of getting into trouble, a few countries have passed a special law. The law provides protection for people who try to help others. Thanks to the law, the injured can’t sue anyone who gives a helping hand, In countries with this law, people are not afraid to help out anymore.
1. How was it for people to help the injured in the past?2. Why don’t people want to help the injured according to the passage ?
3. How does the special law work?

My best friend Gina used to be an outgoing girl. She often played soccer with boys after school. She never wore skirts. But now she is very quiet and shy. She often reads in the library and wears white skirts.
I'm Eric. I used to be short and thin. But now I am tall and strong. I often play volleyball with my friends. In the past, my math was so bad. Every class was like a bad dream. I'm afraid to ask and answer questions in class. I tried my best to study and often learned from others. Fortunately, I can get good scores on my math exam now. My classmates say I'm a clever and handsome boy. I'm glad to hear that.

When you visit a restaurant, you may see some people eating on their own. In the past, these people might feel embarrassed about eating alone, because this might show that they had no friends or disliked making friends with others. However, that’s changing.
According to a new survey of an American company, the adult eats six meals alone each week and 387 meals each year on average. That means eating alone is a new fashion. In China, eating alone is also growing in popularity.
It is true that when people choose to eat with other people, they must be affected by the diners who are with them. If the diners share similar habits, they are lucky and can enjoy a good meal. Wang Kerui, a freshman from Beijing Normal University, is a good example. “Eating alone doesn’t mean I’m lonely. Instead, it can help me enjoy ‘me-time’ and think about the challenges I have met in my studies,” she told TEENS.

Now, many young people with fixed incomes (固定收入) are beginning to re-examine their roles in society. Zhao Lianxue, 28, a media worker, says she enjoys her life alone. Without the task of cooking for a family, Zhao often eats alone in restaurants. In her spare time, she can read her favorite books, listen to music, go sightseeing or shopping. After spending 40 hours playing the online game King of Glory, a middle school student had a stroke (中风) and nearly died. This happened in Guangdong Province in April last year. It shows how bad things can get if one becomes addicted to (沉迷) the Internet.
To stop more teenagers from becoming addicted to the Internet, the Ministry of Education (MOE 教育部) sent a letter to all parents in China on April 20, 2018. It calls on them to pay more attention to (关注) their children’s online activities.
The MOE also sent a notice to primary and middle schools, asking them to monitor (监督) students’ Internet use. From then on, schools would pay more attention to their students’ Internet use and their use of mobile phones.
Schools have been told to teach students how to avoid violent (暴力的) online events. If students show signs of being addicted to the Internet, they can get help from their teachers to give up their addiction.
Among China’s 772 million Internet users, about 151 million of them are between the ages of 10 and 19, according to the China Internet Network Information Center.
It’s important to pay attention to how much time you spend online. To make better use of the Internet, experts advise that students should shorten their screen time to less than 1.5 hours a day. To make better use of their free time, they can develop good hobbies, like reading or playing sports.

When Sarah was a teenager, she used to fight over almost everything with her family. But five years ago, while she was studying abroad in England, she heard a song full of feelings about returning home on the radio. It made Sarah think about her family and friends back in the US. She came to realize how much she actually missed all of them. Ever since then, she has been a fan of American country music.
Country is a traditional kind of music from the southern states of America. Nashville, Tennessee is the home of country music. Many songs these days are just about modern life in the US, such as the importance of money and success, but not about belonging to a group. However, country music brings us back to the “good old days” when people were kind to each other and trusted one another. It reminds us that the best things in life are free ― laughter, friends, family, and the beauty of nature and the countryside.
Sarah hasn’t been to Nashville yet, but it is her dream to go there one day. She has already read a lot about the place and done some research on it. She knows that there is a Country Music Hall of Fame Museum in Nashville. There are also always a lot of great country music concerts with famous musicians and singers, like Garth Brooks. Sarah has already listened to most of his songs. “Garth is one of the most successful musicians in American history. He’s sold more than 120 million records. I hope to see him sing live one day!”
