When it comes to protecting our environment, recycling is the least we all can do. Well, a seven-year-old boy, Ryan Hickman from California has shown us that it’s never too early to start recycling.
The young boy became interested in recycling after his dad took him to a local recycling center when he was three years old. That experience made a deep impression on him. After that, Ryan decided to start his own recycling business. Later on, Ryan’s recycling company was born.
Ryan collects and sorts bottles and boxes from his neighbours. He and his parents give empty bags to all their neighbours so that their neighbours can save their recyclables for them.
Little Ryan then takes their recyclables to the recycling center.
Since starting his own recycling business, his company has recycled more than 200,000 bottles and boxes. He has also tried to save $11,000 for college. In early 2017, Ryan’s recycling story went hot and he was even invited to be a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“Ryan is very crazy about recycling, and he would like to get everybody else be interested in in as well,” said his mother. If you are inspired (鼓舞) by Ryan Hickman’s little business, start recycling now. Next time when you walk past a bottle on the ground, please pick it up.

The “Great Green Wall of China” project is over forty years old. In this project, people plant trees in Northern China. Why are trees so important to us? Because it is healthy to live around trees. They can keep us healthy, just like doctors. So we call them “doctor trees”.
Trees have the ability to clean the air. For people in large cities with air pollution, trees are very important. Workers are planting trees not just in city parks. They are also planting trees along streets to help clean the air.
Some scientists think that trees not just help clean the air. They are also good for our health. A study shows that people in hospitals feel better when they can see trees from their rooms. And people with trees near their homes usually exercise more frequently.
Scientists are also studying the healthy effects (作用) of trees on human minds. One effect of trees is that they make people feel happy and relaxed. When walking through the neighborhood with more trees, people will walk slower and talk more with each other. Of course, another good effect is that “doctor trees” work for free!

19-year-old teenager Gabby Kanizay has become famous around the world. She is known as the youngest Australian to climb Mount Qomolangma—the world’s highest mountain.
According to Kanizay, to prepare for the climb was really hard work, which required a lot of training. Before she reached the top of Mount Qomolangma, she even made four trips to the Himalayas in 2018 and 2019 and also climbed Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth highest mountain. Thanks to her efforts, she reached the top of Mount Qomolangma successfully in May, 2022.
Kanizay said the best part of the journey was that she and her mother reached the top together. They spent an hour on top of the mountain and watched the sun rise from the top.
In Kanizay’s opinion, the journey was not easy. “Parts of it were harder than I thought it would be, but the mountain surprised me a lot,” Kanizay said.

My name is Lisa, a well-known pianist. My first performance was still clear in my mind, though it happened so long ago.
That night, my piano performance was the most important thing in my family. To see my performance, my grandparents would come by plane. My aunt Dianne, a successful news reporter, would come as well, though she was quite busy with her TV news every night.
Unluckily, I got very nervous before I performed. What was worse, the more I practiced, the more nervous I was. It seemed very difficult for me to win any prize. When it was my turn, I sat down at the piano in my beautiful dress and started to play. To my disappointment (失望), I made a mistake and then another. It seemed that it took me years to finish my performance. I ran off the stage with tears in my eyes. I felt surprised when I saw people stand up and cheer for me. My mom and dad had flowers for me and they all said congratulations to me. But what I wanted to do was to go back home and cry. When we were back home, I locked myself in my bedroom. I couldn’t believe how I could make such silly mistakes after so many years of hard work. Then I heard someone knocking at the door. It was my aunt. She came in and sat by me.
“I still remember my first show on TV.” she said. “I had practiced a thousand times, but I forgot to mention the name of the news and you may not believe I even pronounced (发音) my own name wrongly. Don’t be too hard on yourself. No one can avoid (避免) making mistakes. The key is to face it bravely and learn from it.” Her words made me think a lot.
My aunt is right. We shouldn’t be afraid of mistakes. If we can learn from them, they can make us better.
