Planning is the first stage in writing. Even when we plan a text or a short note,we first think about what we’re going to say.

Planning your writing is thinking about what you’re going to write before you write it.

The importance of planning

There are many benefits(好处) to planning your writing. It helps you to:

●come up with new ideas

●record your ideas

●organise your thoughts

●check that you have all the information you need

Think about the possible advantages(优势) to planning.

What to think about when planning

When planning your writing, think about why you’re writing, and who you’re writing to.

The reason you’re writing is your purpose(目的) for writing. The audience is the person or the people you are writing to. Every time you write something, think about your writing purpose and your audience. If you’re writing a report for your work supervisor(管理者),you may need to plan what you say carefully to make sure you've included all your points, and that your writing is as clear as possible.

The writing process(过程)

Writing may be done alone or together with one or more people. You may want to write by hand or you may prefer(偏爱) word-processing it. Using a computer can be helpful when you want to make changes to your text, as you can re-draft(改写) using the‘copy’,‘cut’and‘paste’functions, which saves you from writing your text out again in full.

【推荐1】Most children don’t enjoy doing chores. They like playing computer games rather than cleaning the rooms. But in Australia, Jim and Robert’s mother, Mrs. Black, has good and proper methods to get their children to do housework. Here is an example.

“Mom, have you worked out next week’s chores? Let Jim and me choose the cards. I can’t wait. It’s fun!” When Robert shouted out, his mother had already put all the cards on their big table. On the cards, there are some words like these, “sweep the floor, clean your bedroom, help Mom cook, wash vegetables, make beds, feed the fish, cut the wood, clean the bathroom and many others.” Jim and Robert each chose two cards for each day from Monday to Friday. Then they would hang them on the weekday task board. Jim liked to clean the bathroom, so he picked up the card “clean the bathroom”. Robert loved to make the bed so he picked up his favorite card. Jim again picked up “wash vegetables” and Robert chose “feed the fish”. Soon the two boys were happy to take away all the cards.

To help the children do chores, their mother thought hard and came up with this idea. Of course, the parents did the chores at weekends and left Jim and Robert two days free.

【推荐3】Carrots are grown on farms and in small family gardens all over the world. They are easy to plant and easy to harvest (收获). They have a good taste.

When people think about carrots, they usually think they are a kind of long, thin, orange-colored vegetable. In fact, carrots are in many different sizes and shapes. And not all carrots are orange.

Carrots should be grown in a field that does not have water for a long time. The earth also should not be too hard. To prepare your carrot garden, dig up the earth and turn it over (翻土).

Weather, soil condition (土壤状况), and time affect (影响) the taste of carrots. Warm days and cool nights are the best time to grow great delicious carrots.

The best way to decide if a carrot is ready to be harvested is by its color. Usually, the brighter the color is, the better the taste is.

Most people do not know that carrots can be grown during the winter months. If the winter is not cold enough to freeze the ground, you can grow carrots the same way as you do during the summer months.

Carrots are prepared and eaten in many different ways. They are cut into thin pieces and cooked with other vegetables or meat. Or, they are washed, and eaten just as they come out of the ground.
