【推荐1】Large gatherings such as weddings and conferences can be socially crowded. Pressure to learn people’s names only adds to the stress. A new facial recognition app could come to save you, but privacy (隐私) experts suggested using with care.

The app, called Social Recall, connects names with faces through smartphone cameras and facial recognition, avoiding the need for formal introductions. “It breaks down the social difficulties we all have when meeting somebody,” says Barry Sandrew, who created the app and tested it at an event attended by about 1, 000 people.

After receiving an invitation to download Social Recall from an event organizer, the user is asked to take two selfies(自拍照) and sign in through social media. At the event, the app is active within a certain area. When a user points his or her phone camera at an attendee’s face, the app recognizes the person, displays the person’s name, and links to his or her social media. To protect privacy, it recognizes only those who have agreed to participate. And the app’s creators say it automatically deletes users’ data after an event.

Ann Cavoukian, a privacy expert who runs the Privacy by Design Center of Excellence praises (表扬) the app’s creators for these protective measures. She calls for people’s attention, however, that when people choose to share their personal information with the app, they should know that “there may be unwanted consequences (后果) down the road with that information being used in another social environment that might come back to bite you.”

The start-up has also developed a version of the app for individuals who suffer from prosopagnosia, or “face blindness,” a condition that prevents people from recognizing people they have met. To use this app, a person first gets an image of someone’s face, from either the smartphone’s camera or a photograph, and then tags it with a name. When the camera sees that same face in real life, the entered information is shown. The collected information is stored only on a user s phone, according to the team behind the app.

In many countries, people work five eight-hour days or 40 hours a week. But some companies now want their employees(雇员)to work just four days a week and still pay them for five.

Companies with fewer working hours have found that employees like their jobs more and do more at work. Jan Schulz-Hofen set up his company Planio in Berlin, Germany. Planio offered a four-day workweek to its workers earlier this year. Schulz-Hofen said, “It is much healthier and we do a better job if we’re not working crazy house.”

Schulz-Hofen first tested the four-day workweek on himself. “I don’t get less work done in four days than in five,” he said. “With a four-day workweek,” he added, “I have to be quick, and I have to concentrate on(专注于)work if I want to have my free Friday.” Schulz-Hofen added,“We   got   unexpected   news   from   customers.   Most   of   them   did   not   show   any unhappiness.”

Britain’s Trades Union Congress(TUC) is pushing the country to a four-day workweek. The group argues that a shorter workweek is a way for workers to share the wealth made by new technologies like robotics.

Kate Bell noted, “It will decrease the stress of dealing with working and family life at the same time. Companies that have already tried it say it’s better for work and staff.”

In a study of 3,000 employees, nearly half thought they could easily finish their work in five hours a day if they did not think they had more time, because of which they were already working more than 40 hours a week.

【推荐3】Choose the best answer (根据以下内容,选择最恰当答案)

Nicolas Anelka arrived in Shanghai last month to begin playing for Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League (中超联赛). Anelka is French and played for France’s national team as well as for Chelsea (切尔西队) in England. He is the biggest and the latest of a growing number of foreign stars that have come to play professional sports in China.

At the beginning of this season, the Chinese Basketball Association had several NBA players in the league including Wilson Chandler and Kenyon Martin. These players came to China because of the NBA lockout (停摆,停赛) last September. They wanted to play basketball and they were able to get the same salary here as they would have in the NBA. However, most of them left China when the NBA season started again. The CSL and the CBA are happy to welcome these players and to pay them big salaries because both sports leagues have had trouble keeping their fan base. The CSL has lost many fans because of past match fixing scandals (打假球丑闻) and the CBA has suffered by comparison with the NBA — it’s just not as exciting.

China’s professional sports teams have a long way to go if they are going to match the quality of play seen in other countries. Bringing in top foreign athletes (运动员) is a way for Chinese athletes to learn and to improve. And it’s hoped that the big names will fill the seats in China’s stadiums and arenas (赛场).

More foreign athletes, such as Anelka, are also discovering that China is a great place to spend part of their careers. The money is good, but they also like the country and its culture. Anelka, for one, says he is “delighted (高兴的)” to be here. I think Shanghai is delighted to have him.

1. Nicolas Anelka has played for ________.
A.Shanghai Shenhua and Chelsea
B.Chelsea and France’s national team

B.the CBA refuses to pay the players the same salary as they’ve expected

D.the players have lost their interest in playing basketball
4. The underlined part can be replaced (替代) by ________.
A.foreign starsB.great people
C.those who are rich enoughD.famous foreign athletes
