Nadim and Anneena got a magic key one day. And the magic key would bring them and their friends into some amazing adventures.
On a hot summer day, Nadim and Anneena came to play at Biff and Tim’s house. Nadim had a model book—a book which has lots of shapes and you press out the shapes, the fold and glue them to make a model.
They read about the great country Egypt and decided to make a model of it. Tim found some glue. Then Nadim pressed out the shape and the others began to fold them. First they made the pyramids. Anneena had a difficult shape to fold. “This is a sphinx.” She said. They pressed out some tiny trees and people. Biff glued them all on a piece of paper. It made the scene of Ancient Egypt. At last, the model was finished. The children were pleased with it and laughed happily. Their happy laughter brought their dog, Sam, in. He stepped in the model with his big paws. He knocked over a tree and crushed the sphinx. “Oh, Sam.” everyone yelled.
Sam looked unhappy because he knew he made the children upset. Suddenly, the magic key began to glow. The key took them back to Ancient Egypt. They were standing by a pyramid, the pyramid was still being built. Far off they could see two more pyramids. “That’s amazing!” said Nadim. “I didn’t think the pyramids were so big and they were made with such big blocks of stone.”
“Look over there!” gasped Anneena. She pointed to a huge stone sphinx. “Let’s go and look at the sphinx.” She said. They all began to run towards it. But Sam didn’t, he had seen a cat. He chased it. It jumped up to some blocks of stone. Sam jumped up, too. But the cat ran too fast for him to follow and that made Sam rather disappointed. Then he had another problem. He couldn’t get down. So he baked and baked. All the Egyptian slave workers saw them. They talked in a strange language, Nadim and his friends were frightened. They didn’t know what to do. But to their great surprise, all the people there put their hands together and raised them in the air. Then they sank down on their knees. They bowed to Sam. Just as the Egyptians were catching them, the magic key glowed again and brought them back home. What an exciting adventure!

In a recent interview, the girl shared her story and offered some great advice to young people.
Tell us about yourself and your role at It GiRL
I’m just an ordinary girl who likes to dream. I don’t like taking “no” for an answer. At It GiRL, I enjoy creating things and meeting new and exciting people.
So what is It GiRL? Can you introduce it to us?
Sure. It GiRL is a magazine that is based in Australia. It targets girls between the ages of 7 and 14. It offers games, puzzles, celebrity(名人) interviews, posters, jokes and many other interesting things.
So how did you end up becoming an editor when you were only eight years old?
It GiRL was actually my favorite magazine. I was always coming home and sharing my ideas for it with my parents. One of the magazine’s editors was a friend of my dad’s. Apart from your own, do you have a favorite record in Guinness World Records, or maybe one that you want to break?
I’m the shortest girl in my whole class at school. So it may be fun to be the tallest person in the world even if just for one day!
Do you have any advice for other young people?
Sure. If you know what your dream is, then chase it because a dream will not chase you back. Just go for it because you never know what will happen unless you try.

Have you ever heard about automata(机关人偶)? Automata, the ancient art form, look like humans or animals. Actually, the name comes from the Greek word automatos which means “moves on its own”.
Automata were machines produced in ancient times, and how they work hasn’t changed for thousands of years. But in the modern times of technology, there are plenty of electronic products in the market. As a result, automata have attracted(吸引) no more than 10 full-time makers across our country China.
Yu Chenrui is one maker of automata. When he studied at the Communication University of China in Beijing, he first met automata at a fair in 2015. From then on, he falls in love with making them and doesn’t refuse to use modern technology. He has made some amazing works with the help of modern technology. Last year, he made a cycling machine for the Community Art Project in Chengdu. It uses pedal (脚踏板) power to control wheels that “fire” tennis ball-sized objects.
Although the start of automata dates back thousands of years, a fascinating thing about Yu’s works is that they are loved by people of all ages. Adults admire them as art, while children regard them as toys to be played with.
Technology makes it possible to produce plenty of automata and makes the ancient art form more popular. But Yu thinks technology brings automata back to life.

It was New Year’s eve. In the morning, I heard Grandma tell Mum she needed a football for the New Year’s Eve dinner.
“A football for the dinner? What’s it for?” I wondered. “Anyway, I will get one! I can do something nice for Grandma.”
I remembered my friend Joe had an old football. I went out quietly and found him. I gave him my favourite model car in exchange for his football.
I took the football home, shined it and put it on the living room table secretly. I waited in my room for Grandma to notice it.
“Mike!” Mum shouted. I ran to the living room. “Why can’t you put your things where they belong? Get the football out of here!”
“But it’s for Grandma. She said she needed a football for the New Year’s Eve dinner,” I said.
“A football for the dinner? Mum laughed.” “No, Grandma needs a fruit bowl, not a football.”
“Fruit bowl sounds like football I have done a silly thing!” I went back to my room, embarrassed and disappointed.
Before dinner, Mum came in and asked me to meet my uncles and aunts. When I walked into the living room, Grandma was showing them a pretty fruit bowl with the old football in its center. I was surprised.

That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in the city I lived. There I was walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and the life in this awful place.
As I walked down the empty street under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. “Run!” I told myself and began to do so, both to keep warm and keep away from any possible danger.
About a block from my flat, I heard a noise behind me. I turned quickly, but the street was empty. The noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. I didn’t realize what the noise had been until I reached my flat. It had been my wallet falling to the street.
I wasn’t cold or tired any more. I ran back to where I had heard the noise. Although I searched the street for a quarter of an hour, my wallet was nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard a rubbish truck stop next to me. A voice called from the truck driver, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened and a man jumped out. “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape.
It was nearly 3 a. m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn’t get much sleep that night. But I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life.
